Best oil for high miles

i use 10w-40 castrol high mileage oil. I did in my 1983 bronco 350,xxx and my 1991 honda civic 255,xxx and now my 1994 4runner 206,xxx
I'm not sure you'll notice any great performance difference or anything, but things seem to run better, the motor seems to like the 10w-40, but i don't have any solid proof. I would just say don't even touch penzoil, i've seen what that does to engines.

The myth about Pennzoil is complete bull. Read up on BITOG forums and you'll see that Pennzoil yellow bottle is one of the best conventional oils you can get. Ultra is top notch oil as well.
With that said, there is no "best oil". Just stick with one brand and go by manufacturer's intervals and grades.

Castrol, Valvoline, Mobil1. 10w40. High mileage blends if u like but if ur compressions good... its ur call. They're all pretty good.

I'm gonna call false. I've pulled engines apart that the owner used only pennzoil and other eninges with mixes of various oils, some mobil 1, some castrol. The only engine i found with the worst deposits was pennzoil, gunked up everything so bad. Could be there was another factor, but I'm blaming the oil. Same reason i don't use arco gas in my truck.

:trophy: valvoline max life 10w-40 had it in my old pickup since 75k. was sitting at 276k when i sold it and it never leaked or burned a drop and ran like new. 3.slow 5spd

I use mobil in everything, although my dad swears by castrol GTX, some cars he uses conventional and some he uses synthetic. I use synthetic in everything but the 4runner because it seems like every time I got a higher mileage car and switched it to synthetic it started leaking and this thing doesnt leak any oil so i want to keep it that way.
MOBIL i think is the best off shelf oil you can get, unless you can find Amsoil.

The high mileage oils might just be for cars with oil leaks since it "swells" the gaskets. Also, You should continue using it for the life of the vehicle or you may have leaks once the gaskets "unswell".
I use Mobil 0w-40 on both cars & run it for 8-10k. UOA on my 370z after 8k show plenty of life. It comes out golden after 8k from my 2000 4runner as well.

I was told by an old mechanic that the best thing to use is a half qt of ATF for every 4 qts of oil. I have since done this with no problems at all. In fact in an eng that I had disassembled after using that method for 80000 mi. didn't have a lick of sludge in the pan. He told me not to do this with anything thinner than 10w30 though. I assume because it thins the oil out. But because of the added detergents in the oil it cleans over time. If you have new lower eng seals, I would change to synthetic. But if the seals have seen nothing but conventional oil dont change over, the seals WILL leak. Keep the oil weight alittle heavy though, the old eng are built with less tolerances so too thin of an oil will damage the internals. Sorry don't know if I'm preaching to the choir.

Well, the factory fill in Ferrari's is Pennzoil Ultra. I doubt Ferrari of all companies would put in oil that has a rep for sludging up engines. And you can't really be sure if the owners of those engines actually used Pennzoil (most people don't even care of brands) and if they changed their oil on time.
