Best Roof Rack ?

I put a Rola on my 99 a couple of years ago. I didn't mount it to the factory rails, I removed those and used some bits of Unistrut and mounted it directly to the channels the rails fit into. Gives it a lower, stealthier, sleeker look. Very solid and secure, I have (somewhat inadvertently) used it as a tree skid a couple of times, heh.

Only issue is that the paint on the Rola is not very durable. I think they ship with nothing protecting the insides at all, from the beginning mine would occasionally puke rusty water out onto the car from the center where the halves connect. And after a couple of years, rust has started to show through the paint on the exterior, it's just sort of coming through the paint, the paint isn't even thick enough to flake off. Looks like a real PITA to clean and repaint too.

Rack sits nice and low:

I painted the unistrut sections black:

I'm using the same square stainless steel nuts that fit into the rails that the stock cross bars used to hold them in place. I just took one by Home Depot and got some matching stainless steel bolts. They have to be pretty short, though, otherwise they'll bottom out on the rail before tightening down on the unistrut.

I'm liking this idea. I can't see the pictures, is it just me?

Where do you get that? Love that look!

If you really want one, order it from OK4WD.com! The price is pretty much the same and they ship it for free! If you get it directly from Baja Rack they are going to charge you like $160 for shipping

They're all on photobucket, dunno what to say. They seem OK to me.

Must be computer I'm on. I can see on an Ipad now, thanks. I see what you did, looks like what I need for a great budget rack. Just need something to mount side and back lights and occasional fuel storage. How loud is it on the highway?

I'm lookin for a long rack that will hold a spare tire and extra gear. I have no factory roof rack and could use help getting the right mounts to go with a rack that will work with my current setup. 2001 SR5

What is your budget for a rack? I have been looking myself and plan to go on the cheap end since I'm mostly getting it to mount lights on.

There are several ways to mount a rack, but the most common and cost effective I've observed is using some of the factory rack components.

OEM refurbished rack

I was in the same boat as you. Decided on getting an old but complete OEM rack. Cleaned, sanded, painted and installed, I am shocked at how nice it actually looks. Now for the Rola cage!

Here's a current shot of my full length rack that I've been working on for the last while. Soon to have a sunroof insert and lights on the corners.

I'll play. Winston metal works full length

Is he back making something different? Did some research and the "thing" was settled. Couldn't find a website anymore.
