best tire for combination of grip/tread life?

I've had BFG All Terrains & Mud Terrains for years and years and years....

The All Terrain K/O's are good off road, and will do pretty good in the mud too.
The Mud Terrain's do better, of course, in the mud.

I currently have the All Terrains on my T100 & my Wife's 97 T4R.

I have TSL Radials on my '87 because I got a steal of a deal on them. They are soft and are wearing down much faster than any of my BFG's ever did.

BFGs are great off road but it's the on-road driving that never really impressed me much on the BFGs I've driven on and as a daily driver tire there's better options and you really have to weigh how much off roading you are going to do if any and how hard you are going to wheel and make a tire choice from that.

yeah, i've never really done any hardcore offroading and i don't go very often but that's more from lack of ability due to lack of cash. the times i have gone have been really fun and i was surprised at how much more a 4Runner can do stock than other SUVs. that's the main reason i want some tires. i plan on doing a lot more offroading once i get some good tires/lift/other mods, etc.

DuraTracs. Hands down. I just sold a 33" set with 10k miles on them and they looked just as new as the 35" DuraTracs that replaced them. They ride great on the street. Off Road they have handled everything I've thrown at them. Heavier? Yes. Louder? Naturally. Gnarly? Of course. I love them. Rock on!

For BFG, I think about $220 per tire at discount tire. But keep your eye out on craigslist, I got my old BFG tires on there (265/75/16 brand new, 4 for $550) and this past weekend I got 285/75/16 BFG's, 4 for $515 all brand new! It just takes patience I guess, I had been looking for about 3 months for a good deal.

another vote for the duratracs, some of my new favorite tires in every category, but ive only had them for about 8k miles

Thanks guys. The Duratracs are definitely growing on me. As soon as i hear from someone who has been through a set i'll probably go with them. Clemsonfan, where did you pick up your Sequoia rims? I've been thinking about getting either those or some LC wheels..

I got mine off Craigslist. They were between $200-250.

The Tundra ones are lighter silver like mine and the Sequoia ones are a gunmetalish, darker silver.

Kumho Road Venture MTs have about 25k on them and still look good. Obviously not like new but a lot of highway miles and the off-road miles are rough off road not small trails. For the first set of MTs i've boughten I'm really impressed and still have another 20k to go atleaste.

ive put about 10k on my coopers and i love them.. i have made it through some pretty bad mud, that z-71s with mud grips were gettin stuck in, and they grip great on the road. will be getting these again. my buddy with a 99 has about 40k on them and they still have A LOT of tread on them
