Best way for front end recovery, stock 4th gen

Before using those welded loops on the front of the 4r fo substantial recovery, I'd suggest you have them removed, box the mounting point with some substantial steel and re-attached. They will work fine if you pull straight on with them but they are less strong and will deform if pulled in other directions. The front tow hooks on my pathfinder were welded to 1/8" plate steel and then bolted to the frame in 4 locations each, two on the side and two below. Its not the bolting so much as the reinforcing of the loops and the attachmnt point. The loops were also much larger material.

Wasn't required at that time yet, only as of last year it was required in Pismo.

But we made our own club flag now that it is required.

I pulled out a stuck F-150 in the snow on Mt. Taylor this past winter using only the front loops. Didn't have to pull very hard on it to get them free though. I have broken a tow hook on an older silverado before doing real hard recoveries. Now I mostly use the winch, when I remember to bring it.

Do not recover fro these

I have used these rings many times and have never had any issues.

They are pretty strong, we used one of the rear ones as a anchor point to winch someone stuck in some rocks and it held up with no problems.

Other then that point I have no clue where you can connect up to in the front.

I just got my Runner stuck in some gnarly mud/sludge and ripped one of these tow points very easily. A friend began to winch be out, and the hook popped immediately. The winch barely loaded. Mine may have been a bit more rusty than yours. Or my car was stuck pretty bad. haha.

I'm gonna see if I can have something more significant welded there. Either that, or those soft shackles are looking like nice options.
