Best way to add video input to head unit? (2019)

I've searched and found a few old threads about this system:

but nothing as far as integration, how to access the source, etc. and wanted to see if there were any updates. I have an infared camera system I'm installing soon and not ready to pull the trigger on a new head unit yet. The main complaints about the stock screen is the low resolution, but the infared displays at 480p so it's a great option.

Has anybody had success with the above link or another method? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

All the same it's worth me giving it a shot before redoing the entire area. Considering the double din dashes look super out of place, the t9 is riddled with issues and the Halo 9 is $1k, I'd like to assess the cheaper options before throwing tons of money at it.

Not sure if you read the OP but I'm installing an infared camera system like FLIR so looking for a dedicated solution. Other media and maps are already set up on tablets.
