best XREAS replacement

Hi guys,

I love my 4runner but am planning to sell it around a year from now. I don't use the space and I miss driving a sportier car coming from a WRX. I don't off road or tow so I figure I don't need such a beast. Im just waiting for it to be paid off and am saving before I dive in on another Subaru. Anyway my XREAS started leaking and I want to fix it cheap but want to make sure it is done right for the next owner. I don't want another XREAS system. I want to keep it stock height as well. What are my options?

Why? because you can't just say, okay just replace them with Billies (5100 adjustable) and FJ Cruiser springs all the way around and be done with it, such as the case with a lot of guys on here. Sure that's what makes them happy (I am not hating because that may be what I may go with when I decide to upgrade and remove my XREAS), But a lot of others go with a C/O set up, or a different shock and spring set up. It's all in what your budget and needs are in terms of usage.
Of course you mentioned that you miss your Subie( I know, I get that, I've had several) and that you don't off-road or tow, so you want to keep it clean. This is why I say, spend a few minutes of your time reading through said thread.

I researched this a lot and the most economical choice is all new parts from RockAuto. New springs and schocks (MOOG) work out to around $100 per corner. If you want to add a little lift (aas I do) to that setup than put in a daystar or other small spacer lift when you install the new springs and shocks.

You can upgrade, obviously. lots of folks like the Bilsteins or other spring/shock combos (Like take off Tacoma or FJ Cruiser stuff) but the new, MOOg stuff from RockAuto really seems like the best value.

I'm not seeing any reason to replace the coil springs. The most economical way to address this would be to rip out the XREAS lines and shocks and just buy 4 new shocks from Rockauto and install. Probably looking at around $220 +shipping.

Like Sporin says, just do something like the RockAuto setup. You explained every reason not to lift (besides explicitly saying no to it), nor to put in the extra money for one. Just get a set of front struts for about $100 each (assembled) and rear shocks ~50/ea and call it a day.

If you have one or a buddy with a spring compressor you can save money on the front struts. Swap the OEM spring onto the new bare strut and save some extra money that way; but it'll only be worth it if you already have access to a spring compressor.

Very true. With 155k+ on my truck, my springs are undoubtedly very tired so I had fresh springs in my cart, the OP doesn't need those, so even cheaper.
