lol nope no off road for her, me and the old man keep trying to talk her into the FJ's though so i can roll it in like 5-6 years when she gets bored of it.

personally for me i beleive 03 to 05 are the best in the looks category because the fenders are wider witch will actually allow a 33'' tire and bigger look like its supposed to be on the vehicle because the the wheel wells look big enough. the 06-08 look like the wheel wells are for like tiny tires.
also 03 SR5's and SE's rule cause the plastic cladding and the notches above the wheel wells... looks more old school and more like its supposed to be off road.
just my opinion though

how do you know this? i thought the 03-05 V8's had most power? then they made them weaker for 06-09?????
On paper, yes....but that's only because they changed the way they rate the HP. All V8s from '05 and up actually have the same amount of power.

'03 and '04 V8 actually had less HP than the V6 for those two years.
Here's the breakdown for you:
The '03 and '04 V8 were the "weakest" of all V8s. Then in '05, the V8 got variable valve timing and made more HP. The engine was unchanged from '05 through '09 (and then they stopped putting V8 engines in 4Runners), so in fact the '05 - '09 V8s all made the same HP. But during this time, the SAE changed they way they rate HP, so on paper it appears that the later V8s made less HP, when in fact they are all exactly the same HP output despite the "official" HP numbers.

Went from an 03 to an 08, couldn't be happier
I love my '05. Anyone who has ever owned one of the 3.0 V6 2nd gen. Trucks/4Runners is forced to appreciate the V8s (or the V6) in any of the 4th gen. 4Runners - despite what DOT or Toyota claim for HP.
There are a few things I don't like about my 05 4Runner. The first few are things I really don't like. As the list continues, it is mostly just nitpicking.
-No way to turn off the VSC/traction Control.
-No way with the 4WD models to run solely on 2WD.
-I don't like the OEM roof rack on the 05 and earlier models. 06+ got the tube style which is much more accommodating to add things to
-IMO 05 and earlier look better with the narrower fenders/bumpers and less bulky grill but didn't get the LED tailights or projector headlights
-The clearcoat on my 05 is peeling on all non-metal parts and the window sweeps/seals are all broken.
-Driveline clunk. Because I've driven the car for so long, I can't remember the last time I even noticed it.
-My steering wheel controls didnt mesh with the aftermarket stereo despite all the gadgets I put on it. I think mine is a relatively isolated incident as some 05s work. I think the 06 and newer is without the problem.
-This ties in with the gripe above but...The JBL stereo is a ***** to get do anything aftermarket related. Harnesses and digital processors are used to adapt the JBL HU/amps signal to the standard signals used by everyone and everything since the dawn of automotive stereos.
Other than that, my 05 is a tank.

Unfortunately, I have the V8 and full time 4WD is all I get. Great in the winter, especially in the high-desert Utah snow.
I wish I knew that about the VSC a few weeks ago while getting stuck in the mud up at the cabin. I guess we learn something new everyday! Thanks.
