Big Bear Trip

Seeing those pics make me regret getting the 4X2.

That's why I'm getting another 4R in a few weeks - this time a 4X4 for myself...best of both worlds - will have a Mall Cruiser and an Off-Road Cruiser.
 
I would never buy a 2 wheel drive living in the west. There are more trails than I will ever be able to go on. I have a Jeep Wrangler for the harder trails around Lake Havasu and two Honda atv's. I use the 4runner for the farther away easier trails. It is my wife and my favorite thing to do. The lift and BFG tires make a world of difference. It is hard to believe such a small lift can make so much difference and the better tires give you more confidence about cutting a tire on the rocks. I have been on some fairly hard trails with the 4runner but i take the running boards off as they are easily damaged. I could really use some good skid plates and rock sliders. The long overhang on the back does make it easy to hit the hitch compared to a Jeep.

All very true. Running boards should be taken off before any off roading and like you I am in real need of skids and sliders. I actually do not have a hitch on my runner (I am like the only person without one) so I am really careful not to hit the rear bumper

Is that Apple Valley in the background of one of the 1st photos? My wife and I spent a little time in Newport Beach a couple years ago, rented a convertible and went up to Big Bear, then down the back through Apple Valley and back to Newport Beach. It was so nice in Big Bear, then hot as hell on the way back down to Apple Valley. We refused to put the top up, and hauled butt across that valley floor! We were putting on sun screen every 10 mintues, and yet I still looked like a red racoon Monday morning "sunglasses". Great place! Great Pic's too!
 
Josh and I are heading up to big bear for round two today and might spend some time in arrowhead area too.

This time 3 days!

Just got back from Big Bear earlier this evening. Took the runner on some simple fire road trails towards Holcomb...pretty happy on how my stock runner performed.

Went on the harder runs with some of my buddies from TTORA group and had a blast.

We talked to some of the TTORA guys, we passed a few large groups of them, if you happened to see two lifted 4th gens I bet you can guess who that was haha

I actually left early Saturday afternoon...there was such a large turnout and pretty much stuck with my buddies...it was a definite experience wheelin' with people who own very capable rigs. Can't wait to get mine.

BTW, have you taken your Runner through any of the moderate runs (White Mtn, Gold Mtn, etc...)?

I know we were trying to find Gold Mtn, but I'm not positive if we ever found it. We have done just about every trail there is, except John Bull, and 3N69.

Isn't Onyx Summit off of the 38 on the way up? If so, then no. We were north of the lake and Discovery Center, up towards John Bull. At some spots we actually went over the top of the mountain and could see the valley on the other side of Big Bear.
 
Onyx Summit is just past Big Bear City, you drive over the summit (elev 8443 ft) and then you start descending down into Yucca Valley. I think it
