WISH list for 2015/2016: keep the size the same as the 2007 model, more agressive look, gas mileage at 22/27.

Generally, over the generations, the gas mileage on the 4runners has been going up as well as the truck getting larger and more powerful.

But yeah, it certainly does not need to be any larger. Same with the Tacomas! Then entire SUV/Truck line at Toyota just keeps getting bigger and bigger every gen.

That said, I love the interior room of my 2104 And it's MUCH shorter than my extra cab Taco was, though about 10 inches wider.

While I agree with you that the 4Runners are getting too big, you do have to be careful what you wish for. I'm assisting with the purchase of 20 vehicles for my company and the list of vehicles I could recommend for our needs is pretty small. All the new SUVs are getting so low to the ground (for fuel economy reasons) that they won't work for our basic field-use needs. The new Pathfinder is a perfect example, it went from a very capable vehicle to something that is more along the lines of a Toyota Highlander. We are getting a fleet of new Xterras because they are the only sub-$30k SUV with a transfer case, high ground clearance, and a reputation for dependability.

welp, I join during my research on maintenance tasks for my 2007 4runner. Then started doing research on the new 2014 models - what the TRD was about. Then decided what the hell, WHAT IF by some miracle the marketing peps at toyota was looking for feedback its why i said 'wish'

8 of the 20 vehicles will be Tacomas. We need double cabs, and a 4WD double cab with an automatic trans just barely comes in under $30k.

The 2014 4Runner was $10,000 MORE than the Xterras.

All depends on your perspective. My 4Runner was a 34% increase in mileage over my old Ford Explorer 5.0L V8.

I get around 21 mpg combined city/highway. Want better gas mileage, let the Eco light come on. :thumb3:

My new 2013 is getting 15-25% better MPG than my 2003 V8 did and it isn't even broken in yet. It seems as all vehicles grow bigger as they evolve, not sure why but can anyone think of a new model that shrunk in size from previous year?

Wow...what a way to introduce yourself and insult all the forum members with current models...lol.

It's all relative; compared to my previous vehicle, I have a smaller, more streamlined, and more efficient trail vehicle/family hauler than before! Any smaller and I wouldn't fit in it very well either. I have both 4th Gen and 5th Gen models and I prefer the size and performance of the current Gen; I think the product executive should keep his/her job...at least until we see what happens with the next Gen...lol.

The 5th gen 4Runners are about the biggest I would want them to be and I actually like the '10-'13 Exterior styling. The '14+ models have a horrid front end design, but the headlamps and taillamps are nice. I'm not a fan of the 5th gen interior as it feels "off" compared to a 4th gen or 3rd gen, or most SUVs (I mean REAL SUVs, Body On Frame vehicles not the CUV [Crap Unibody Vehicles]) for that matter.

That being said, fuel economy has been going up for the most part (above what your 2007 was rated for); but the Body on Frame design and Off-Road Capability don't go hand in hand with very good fuel mileage. Not to mention performance suffers as a result of fuel efficiency typically, just ask the 5th gen guys about how they upshift and down shift (not a knock against you guys, just pointing out that it is noticeable.)

2014 mpg

I knew the MPG when I ordered it, 2014 - SR5-4WD. It is a utility vehicle for us, high water, snow, wet ramps pulling boat out, ROI can't be beat, reliability, great visibility, I could go on. We have had our share of Toyotas, no remorse.

Hello, all!
Just bought a new 2014 4Runner (kept the old 98 4Runner, too). For my needs, the 4Runner is still the best choice. I need something with enough cojones to tow my Airstream, and it has to fit in my garage and be dependable. Once I unhitch the trailer, the vehicle has to be a real off-roader, for the times I need (want) that capability. Turns out the list is pretty short for vehicles that fit my needs. Most of the other choices in the mid-size SUV category are not dependable, or are a car that can't really go over anything rough, or are too expensive.
Oh, and it may sound silly, but the old-school rear window is a huge selling point to me, with my dogs. It's pretty much the most dog-friendly rig out there, if things like having a safe, well-ventilated space for your dogs are important to you.
There are, IMHO, far too many fancy bells and whistles on the new vehicle, but dang, it sure is nice! Funny how quickly I got used to having a back-up camera and ventilated seats. We're having hot summer weather in Montana, and the Blizzard Pearl color sure makes a big difference when I get back in the rig after it's been sitting in the hot sun for a while.
As long as things don't start going wrong with it, I'm going to keep enjoying it.
I'm looking to add power running boards in about six weeks or so (according to my supplier). I'll keep the forum posted on how that process goes for aftermarket power running boards.
