Bike Ride = Life Lessons

So my 21 yo son and I went on a great mountain bike ride this weekend. About 15 miles, all the trails were clearly marked Green = Easy, Blue = Moderate and Black = Difficult. Our chosen route that day worked out to about five miles spent on each type of trail. We did two circuits of 7 1/2 miles so we got to ride each type of trail twice and one black diamond three times lol.

Since it was a holiday I expected the trails to be packed. What I didn't expect was what we found: The Green trails were packed. The blue trails had a few people and the black trails had nobody but us, which is why we did that one three times. On our second loop I told my son that riding these trails is exactly like real life. Everyone takes the easy path, a few take the more difficult and only dumbasses like us take the hard way, even though the more difficult it is the more satisfaction can be had. He agreed.

Sometimes people have to take the path they are "capable" of taking which may not equate to what they "want" to take. Would you agree with a person who tried to take the hard path but recklessly had no business being on it and putting themselves and others at risk?

I wonder 1engineer if that squirrel who died in the engine bay in the Subaru was thinking the same thing.

Failing to learn is learning to fail, something that my uncle frequently emotes to my cousins though I don't know if they take it to heart.
