I know this has probably been covered but I'm feeling kinda lazy so I'm hoping someone can help me out. I just ordered these 5100s front and rear.

Bilstein 5100 Series Shocks & Struts - Reviews & FREE SHIPPING!

Part #: 24-248730 Front
Part #: 24-249966 Rear

My question is do I need to get anything else for the install on my stock setup (Bushings etc...) ?

Thanks in advance for the help!

I'm confused why you bought lift struts and shocks for factory springs. You'll have them out of their optimal range, but maybe you know that. You might need bushings for the rears. If you read the FAQ thread there's some info about the bushings. Good luck.

EDIT: Actually, here....

Thanks for the help! I kinda thought at some point I may raise it at some point but I may not. Were these a bad choice? 95% of my driving will be on the road.

For stock springs? I mean, your springs are going to negate the advantages of the struts until you lift. It's probably going to be a rough ride, but if your factory stuff is clapped out, you might notice an improvement. You just won't enjoy the soft ride you would with longer springs. People have done it, it just isn't a popular option is all.

I disagree with Cree 100%. They are actually designed to be used- specifically- with stock coils. If you use any lift coil, you need to leave the lower seat on the "stock" setting.
Those are not "lift shocks and struts".
They are able to be used to lift the front, and able to be used on a leveled rear end.
They are completely cool for stock coils. I am using stock '99 coils on my 5100 on the 4th setting on the front of mine, and I love the setup.
I can't recommend the setup enough, to be honest. I love my 5100 shocks [emoji1360]
Edit-
Sorry; I didn't even answer your question.
The rear shocks come with everything you'll need.
The front will just need new stem bushings, and you'll be good to go.

Thanks for the response. I was just about to call and try to cancel my order. This makes me feel a lot better about things. So I don't need any bushing for the rear and no strut mount for the front? Just don't want to get everything out and have to wait for parts. Thanks again for making me feel better about my decision to go with the 5100s!

What do you mean by "on a leveled rear end"? The rears are good for some lift as well , right? I'm only wanting 1.5-2", so these would be a budget solution on all four corners, correct?

The 5100's for the 4Runner are designed for stock springs with three adjustment notches up to 2.5" lift. The rear is designed for 0-2" of lift with stock springs, 1.5" spacer lift or 2" lift springs (OME 2906, though they don't say it specifically).

90% here have a lift + big knobby tire fetish so they can't comprehend why anyone would want stock height even if all you do is drive in the city. These shocks work with stock springs and it sounds like a good combo assuming your springs aren't worn as well.

Are these actually 4runner shocks or Tundra?

Edit: I see these are 4Runner specific. In that case yeah I am wrong. I didn't realize they had 4Runner specific stuff.

I've got them on my daily driver and love them. I have 99 tall coils up front and OME 906s in the rear. I think it rides great both on and off road. The only reason I swapped the coils was because I wanted something that wouldn't sag so much when loaded up. But like was stated above, they're great for any application 0-2.3".

My 97 has about 247k but has been taken good care of. The shocks have been wore totally out though and it nosedives like crazy and bounces like I have switches on an Oldsmobile. The springs are probably worn but I figured these 5100s were a good first step and then go for springs after that if I'm not satisfied. Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the help. I probably will add new springs at some point seeing as mine has a ton of miles on it but I'm hoping this will be a good first step in improving the ride.

I just put the same shocks/struts on my 1997 a few weeks ago. I put the front struts 2 notches up from stock, and added an 1.5" polyurethane spacer on the rear. My goal was just to clear some larger tires, but I noticed a huge improvement in on road handling, too. I'm really happy with how it turned out. To answer your original question, you don't need anything for the rear, but you will need new bushings for the top of the strut in the front. I reused the originals, but they were pretty beat. I'll pull it apart and replace them in the very near future.

Awesome. Nice looking truck! That's the exact look I'm going for as well. What size tires are those?

Yes! What I mean by "leveled rear", is bringing the back up 1-2" to get rid of the saggy ass syndrome! I used '14 SR5 rear coils to bring the rear of my '97 up, and I couldn't be happier with those coils! Highly recommend them. And usually not hard to find for cheap on Craigslist.

Well this thread got me off the fence, thanks OP.

I just ordered a set as well. I was thinking 4600's but I've heard so much better about the 5100's. I want at least one vehicle that rides nice....

Any info on this bushing needed? I assume it's the upper bushing for the eye on top the front shocks? (I see it comes as a threaded stud.)

My Runner currently rides like a road wagon, I think it's shocks are pretty much gone. With the 0-2" range if I decide to upgrade the coils at any point I'm don't have to buy shocks again.

I just bought a 5th gen to eventually replace my 3rd gen and I think 5100's to level the front will be my first mod.

Thanks, man! They are 265/70R17 BF Goodrich KO2's on 17" factory FJ Cruiser wheels. I don't do much wheeling apart from driving on the beach for surf fishing, and the occasional forestry/fire service road, so I really just wanted a slightly modified/stock look. I couldn't be happier with how it turned out, and wasn't hard on the wallet, either.

Does anyone have the part numbers for the upper front strut bushings and retainers? I can find the upper strut mount but not the bushings. Thanks!
