Hey Folks..
I've had what I thought was a tire balance issue going on 5k miles. I've had the tires balanced 2 times by local tire shops and then just yesterday took the 4Runner to the dealer to have them do a Road Force balance. They balanced the tires and drove the truck. They claim the tires are balanced but that the front shocks are toast. They are 5100's with ~5k miles on them. The truck is stock and has never been offroad. I've always thought the shocks were a bit soft, but didn't think about it too much as I thought the tires were causing the occasional vibration. They seemed fined on smooth pavement but seemed to lack dampening on rough roads. I bought 5100's thinking I may lift the truck but I never have. They are currently set on the lowest perch height. When I put them on I thought they were so soft that I added an Addco front sway bar. That helped in turns but when you push down on the bumper, it seems like there is very little initial resistance from the shocks. The truck feels a bit like it rocks back in forth on small pavement changes. Anyone have similar issues? I really expected the 5100 to be firmer, and the dealer making note of them being "tired" really has me wondering. I called Tire Rack and they are willing to send in a warrantly claim but who knows what Bilstein will cover as a failure. They don't leak and they aren't bent...just "tired".
