Bilstein 5100 or 4600 with OME 906?

With 260,000+ on the odometer, my suspension is shot. It rides like total crap and I'm sick of it. I've got '99 tall coils, and I'm not looking for any more lift. I have Airlift 1000 in the rear to help with the sag, but it still rides stiff as hell.

It's my daily driver, so 99% of driving is on road. I do like to take it off road occasionally for some trail riding, but nothing beyond that. I do tow a jet boat occasionally (that's where the Airlift 1000 comes in handy keeping the truck level).

I'm thinking I'll start with the rear, and install OME 906 springs. I'm thinking that would provide the best remedy for the rear sag issue. Which Bilstein shocks would match up well with that coil? The 5100 for the Tundra, 4600 for the Tacoma, or something else? Anyone know of a better combination?

I'm not even sure what I want to replace the front with yet...

Tried searching, but there's so many combinations of this stuff it gets confusing.

3rd gen 4Runner Bilsteins 5100's for 1-3" lift. Bought mine from Toytec.

5100s matches 906's on the rear. That's what I put on in September, along with Tundra coils and 5100s on the front. 2" lift, zero complaints so far.

Wheeler's sells a set with the right bushings and everything for a 4runner.

Starting at post #41, I was reading how this guy was having good results with the Rancho 9000XL shocks paired with the OME 906 springs in the rear.

In the process of installing my OME 906 rear shocks. These are a good 1" shorter than my '99 tall coils. Wtf?

No pictures at the moment. Had to stop what I was doing and do some family stuff.

hmmm... thats odd how the OME's are shorter than the 99 talls. did it lift the rear anymore?

I was gonna say, just go with a new set off 99 coils and then bilsteins all around. Don't know why the 906s are shorter than 99s, but I do think they will be stiffer, which doesn't seem like what you want. I have 99s all around right now with 5100s in the front and stock fj80 shocks in the back. They are a good option. Just an FYI, I switched from the tundra setup up front and ome 890s in the back, to my current setup, thinking it would ride softer. I really haven't noticed any difference after 4 months now. Its still too stiff for me as a daily driver. The 4runner wants to be a stiff riding truck

No complaints yet besides I had to put a spacer to get rid of driver side lean, when in fact it states that superflex coils should help eliminate that.

I am not so sure about that or maybe I just had saggy 99s. I installed the 906 springs today and while they are very similar in height the weight handling is far far superior to the 99s. I loaded up a couple hundred pounds and sat in there myself (another 200ish) and only lost an inch from empty height. That is a vast improvement to my previous setup.

As far as the ride is concerned the 99s are much softer but the ome springs definitely keep the rear end in check. I noticed decreased body roll, much less bottoming out, better flex, and overall tighter handling. It rides like a truck because, well, it is a truck.

Now my question remains what shocks to run. My stockers were in good shape so I left them but I am looking to upgrade in the future. Saw the icons for 350 or so for the pair on toytec. Any thoughts for those?

I hit a snag. I have two Rancho shocks, both with the same part number stamped on them, but they are different. The circular piece at the bottom of one of the shocks is smaller, and therefore too small in diameter to fit on my truck. The circular piece is also thinner than it's supposed to be. The bushing is also different too. It's like they welded the wrong piece on to the bottom of the shock.

Yeah, they definitely fvcked that shock up...

Back to the 906 rear coils. I got those installed and left the crappy Gabriel shocks in place until I get my Rancho shocks sorted out. The 906 coils did a nice job replacing my '99 talls. I've got a slight rake now and I like it. Funny that the 906s are shorter than the 99 talls when unloaded.
