Bilstein rear shock broke, looking to upgrade rear suspension, need advice!

Pretty much the same thing as their "pro truck sport" series. I'm sure they just make toytec custom lengths.

Source? I've seen a few manufacturers thrown around but nobody has been able to verify this.

I emailed Toytec and they suggested their Boss rear shocks which are good to 3.75" lift, anyone have any experience with these? Only thing that turns me off the LC OEM shocks is that they are not 4runner specific and have to change a bunch of washers to make them work.

Im pretty much narrowed down to these:

- LC OEM Tokico Black rear shocks
- BOSS rear shocks from Toytec
- Bilstein 5100s #33-187174

I've been running the Boss rears with Toytecs standard 3" lift spring in the rear for 10 months. Ride quality is fine on road and off. They have at least 1000 miles of high speed dirt and low speed rock under them and they're still attached to the truck. lol

I worked at Toytec for 2-1/2 years. They won't hide it. You can call and ask them.

Now I have another option to consider, I emailed toytec about their BOSS with remote reservoirs and they said they will also work with the superflex. When I do go off-roading or overlanding I seem to always find miles of nasty washboard, I wonder if the remote resi would help with that?

My superflex's and non remote resi "standard extended boss" shocks are a tad lightly damped for my taste/use. I have a fridge, bumper, swingout, sub all in the back and a roof rack so it's more the weight than anything. When I initially put them on it was about perfect, but rig was close to stock weight then. Now higher speed hits kinda overwhelm the setup.

Land cruiser shocks. You won't go back once you switch. Ask me how I know lol Take a set of rear LC shocks and put them in with your rear superflex. You'll love them. I'll send you a pm with some info

Looks like a lot of people are recommending the OEM Tokico Blacks, so im gonna try going this route! If im not happy with it, i might do the BOSS with remote reservoirs.

I will report how the new setup is working once i get it going. Thanks for everyones help.

So it seems that the shock didn't break, what happened was the shock rod unthreaded from the bottom mount. I was able to thread it back in, but im not sure how safe this is? Should i tack weld or put some red threadlock on it?

I ordered the LC shocks regardless but if this shock is fixable then i can sell it, if its still safe.

I had a 5100 do that on a Tacoma. I did tack weld it but eventually replaced them with 5150's and installed limit straps.
