Bilstein says, "we do not make shocks that can be used on an ex-XREAS system."

Planning on dumping the XREAS for the Bilstein 5100's and the FJ spring mod based on the good reviews.

Well, I called allshocks.com and tirerack.com who both contacted their respective Bilstein reps and this is what I got back from them BOTH:

Bilstein will not provide shocks for you if you had XREAS on your 4R Sport because it will throw error codes and XREAS is tied into the ECU.

So this is what I think they mean:
The VSC TRAC SideCurtainAirbag are calibrated using the suggested YAW sensor readings with XREAS in place. By changing the shocks the safety parameters will be un-calibrated to the allowable body roll and yaw and will activate VSC pre-maturely.

I know a ton of people have swapped over and I wanted to get the Authoritative answer on this before I drop the $.

The yaw sensors are calibrated to work with a stock vehicle and stock suspension angles, but they can easily be re-calibrated. Most people who install lifts have had no issue at all though, myself included.

If you're worried about it , do a Zero Point Calibration after the install and you will reset/zero out the yaw sensors. Documentation for performing this procedure can be found on the forum, it takes less than 5 minutes to do. Toyota dealerships may also do it for free (sometimes).

Also, I don't think the side curtain airbags are tied into the yaw sensors. They're probably tied into various impact sensors and some sort of clinometer.

The sensor system can be re-set. That is in effect, what the 0 point calibration is. It tells the ECU that the way the truck is sitting at that point is in fact correct and default.

Surprized they sell any shocks anymore, for an SUV or pick up truck.

With a higher center of gravity, suv and trucks will roll over if you are careless-not matter what is or is not done.:driving:

Indeed, a sedan with a low center of gravity is very tough to roll over, although it might still go totally out of control such as spin out.........but when a suv or truck rolls over, it is because of (you name it whatever the lawyers want to name it) that is the fault of some manufacturer who now gets sued ............:spider:

to tell you the truth when i pulled my xreas for fj suspension berfore my new set up i noticed alot less sway. im not knocking the xreas cuz i love how i could haul ass over alot of ruff road and barely feel it but hated feeling sea sick from all the body roll the system allows for. with the aftermarket systems or fj set up the truck feels way more planted although you will feel more of the more road.

With XREAS I can do a 90 deg turn at 32 mph before i get squealing. (texas has a bunch of turn arounds under the highway exits) I don't have the arc angle and distance but its essentially taking 5000LBS of vehicle and changing the inertia by 90 degrees. I wish I remembered AP physics, damn... should have kept those notes!

They are confusing model years. The newer KDSS with XREAS IS actually combined with its own ECU (the XREAS part is actually tied into the KDSS system on the 5th gen 4Runners). You need to either clarify this point with the rep or just order them as 5100 for non-XREAS 4th Gens (there's no difference in mounting from XREAS and Non-XREAS)
