Bit of a whine coming from front of motor.........

Changes slightly with RPM's

Sounds like it MAY be coming from behind the timing cover.

Has about 110k miles. Timing belt has already been replaced once.

Any ideas?

UPDATE:

Haven't really had a chance to investigate further but here's an update.

It ony makes the whine at low RPM's while the truck is stationary. After I'm up and driving the sound goes away.

As I'm coming to a stop the whine comes back just before idle and it is in full force while the truck is stopped and idling.

I can almost feel a very light harmonic vibration that moves under my feet as I hear this sound.

Any guesses with this new info?

Nope, OE stereo and it is turned off.

Are you sure it's not an alternator whine or cooling fan clutch?

It didn't really sound like it but I'll check again. It didn't really sound like it was coming from the alternator. I'll check out the fan clutch this evening.

That's a good guess too. I'll be getting under the hood this weekend to wash the bay.

Check the belts. Mine were making a similar sounding noise.

You can test it by using a water bottle and dribbling some water on the belts while the engine is running. When the belts got wet, the sound went away for a while.

I ordered new belts but then it got cold here and the sound went away anyway so the new belts are still sitting in the garage. I figured either the pulleys or belts were glazed.

Don't think its the P/S pump. When they're on their way out the whine usually changes pitch when you turn the wheel left and right.
