Black Ops II out today

I was able to check it out on tuesday last week, seems like someone busted a box open, couple of boxes was open, all for xbox and ps3 i think, i know i saw ps3 in one box.

i was a big fan of the COD games, until the last one came out, they are just more of the same it seems any more, you're just paying for more maps, i have them all, I dont think I will bother getting this one. Might just wait till BB has it for $20

I'm with Presta on this. I've been a huge COD fan since COD4, but I've been disappointed with Black Ops 1 and MW3, so I don't really have any high hopes for BO2. Don't know if I've just gotten bored of the formula or what. TBH, I've never enjoyed any of the Treyarch CODs.

Alas, I'll still be getting it since my buddies all like it and play and I'm the clan leader. If it weren't for them, I'd have probably quit playing MW3 6 months ago.

I have a 360 but I always played COD on Wii, even with the lesser graphics, the motion control of the aim, etc made it so much more fun and interactive to me than playing with two thumb sticks on one controller.

I don't believe they're releasing Black Ops II for Wii, which is a shame, bc I would have bought it. Although with past releases they've done 360/PS3 in November and Wii in December. I'm not keeping my fingers crossed though.

I didn't start playing them until the original Black Ops came out so maybe my expectations are a bit skewed. :p I used to do hardcore PC gaming (WoW) but once I finally broke away I was looking for a way to get into some kind of casual pvp and have always enjoyed FPS, so I ended up getting a PS3 and Black Ops. I don't even play the storyline unless I'm super bored and PSN is down. I do enjoy the multi-player format though and of course the zombies. I'll agree though that, even with me playing the two most recent games, it does get redundant after a while. I haven't played MW3 in 8 months and probably didn't play Black Ops for 6 months before MW3 came out. The trailers look promising though and I like the new class format. For now I'm just waiting on the UPS man. :violin:

Picked up my copy at lunch. Traded in a bunch of old games and got it for free so I figured, "what the hay".

I've been watching youtube clips this morning and it looks really promising. I've heard a lot of good stuff, but I'm still not going in with high hopes. This way, hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised.

In my eyes though, COD4 and MW2 were the pinnacle of the franchise. Not that they didn't have their issues, but the game was just funner back then. Again, it could just be that I'm bored with it.

And yes, the new create a class format does look promising.

The new prestige options are pretty cool as well. You no longer have to start over if you don't want to.

I wonder if that has anything to do with the new Wii console coming out.

what no COD world are war fan? lol, that was my favorite of all time of the series though the first modern warfare was pretty good, I've continued to play the series just because everyone else does, i'm a much bigger fan of the battlefield series over all, i did pre-order black opII though and have been playing the new halo for about a week now. i should be getting my copy either today or tomorrow, waiting on a txt to go pick it up.

:biggrin2:

i'm down for a tentative forum battle sometime this week if you guys are up for it.

I will add you izzard

I'm still debating on rather or not to pick up hack ops 2.. since hack ops once was kinda of meh.. I might have to buckle down and get it since pretty much everyone of my friends will be playing it this winter... I rather play mw2 over mw3 tbh.. I like the new modes of mw3 but the gameplay of mw2 was so much more fun..

anyone on battlefield 3?

izzard, How's Halo working out? is it like 3? How's the online service?

sweet, yeah i rage on battlefield, halo 4.... is well halo.... the online system isn't much different than the others though the layout imo looks alot cooler and is a bit easier to get through, the game play online has been pretty good for halo, i like the new mech warrior thing and the new weapon design and layout actually makes the game more like COD in some regards, shields don't offer as much as they used to, you buy weapons to add to load outs with point earned during game play much like COD, and the weapons themselves seem to be better imo, I've always considered halo to be amateur hour or for kids as getting shot in the face 20 times and still walking away from it wasn't fun for someone who loved counter strikes one shot one kill type game play, i feel like the new halo is a little more grown up or "not so soft".

overall, i think they've done the series justice if this is the last halo on the 360..graphics textures are amazing on the cut scenes as well, I've only got about 1/4 of the way through the story mode and have only got 3~4 levels up on multiplayer online.

So I was able to log about an hour and a half last night before the servers pooped out around 8:00 Eastern.

My initial thoughts? It's pretty good. I like it... For now.

The Good:

The new feel is very refreshing. Whatever they did with the engine... It worked! Game play was very smooth for the most part.
Graphics and textures are amazing.
I'm enjoying the customization associated with the new class system.

The Bad:

The explosives are back too being very powerful. I'm not gonna say overpowered, they may be just right, but it'll take a little bit of adjustment to get used to the effectiveness of them.
The pointstreaks are very powerful as well again. Sort of MW2 esque. Again will just take some getting used to.
Same thing with the maps. I love the design and traffic flow of the maps, but they seem to have the verticality element of MW2 and BO back. Where they flattened the maps in MW3. So again, this'll just be an adjustment. I was used to not having to look up in windows and what not, now I'm being shot from above constantly.
The sound is "mushy" like all Treyarch games :(
The menu interface is also cumbersome and clunky like all Treyarch games. It's just another example of them doing too much, when we really just want simplicity. They did the same thing in BO, when they allowed kids to design penises to stick to their guns and smiley face reticles... Who cares about that? What does that really add to the game?
The lag compensation code still needs some tweaking (as it always does). I experienced my fits of nerd rage due to what I refer to as "insta-death". It's basically when a guy turns a corner blasting and you instantly drop dead and never had a chance to win that gunfight. That's you getting the short end of the stick on lag compensation. Don't get me wrong, I've been on the other end of it too. It's just one of those fickle deals when you've got multiple users on different connections.
I do like the guns, they all seem very strong, but they also feel very polarized like in BO1. What I mean is that the guns in MW2 and MW3 all seem to have distinct characteristics and play unique. Where as the BO guns seem to all be the same gun, re-skinned with a different sound.

While that list seems long, I'm very optomistic about the game. We'll see. I'd definitely recommend anybody on the fence to get it and try it. A few games in I was close to declaring this one "best COD ever" (espcially after going 30-8 on my first game) and a couple games later I was back to my usual fits of COD rage.

I wonder if that has anything to do with the new Wii console coming out.

Yeah I wondered that too but haven't seen anything.

I'm not impressed with what I've seen with that Wii U, seems like a fail out of the box.

Nintendo should go back and make a 32bit system with some scroller games.

right, i have more fun on my old nes & snes roms than anything Nintendo has produced since, they have found this weird spot that doesn't really work for modern gaming or nostalgia , all of the marios and such aren't as good as the originals.... i don't know what it is really, but i agree with you 100% on that one.

I was posting a similar response earlier any my laptop battery died unexpectedly. :(

Anyway, I was able to play for a few hours last night, mostly multi-player Team Deathmatches and Nuketown 2025 moshpits. The game definitely feels different in some ways. I agree, the engine seems better and the graphics are slightly improved. I concur with your comment about the explosives and killstreaks. I think the problem with the explosives is their aoe range. If that's trimmed down a bit they will be more tolerable. The killstreaks are fine but it seems that the maps are smaller this time and designed to force players into conflict (a good thing imo), so it results in quite a few multi-kills. I'm not sure how they can tweak that. The new class layout is pretty neat and I can see some things, once unlocked and combined, will be very potent. I have been disappointed with the assault rifle damage so far and I miss the Barrett .50. Otherwise I've discovered I'm very rusty with aiming.

I haven't downloaded the Nuketown map yet, but that map was always good times.

I think the blast range on explosives is ok. They should be effective, otherwise why put them in the game? It's just a balancing act. Think about noob tubes in MW1&2 with "Danger Close" which were clearly overpowered and you basically only had to see a guy, pull the trigger and be in close proximity, compared to BO1 and MW3 where they were basically a joke and you had to hit the guy right at his feet. I feel the effectiveness is about where it needs to be for the type of equipment that it is. I was just getting tired of guys hucking nades across the map and catching me square in the jaw. It reminds me of COD4, when they had the perk "3x Frag" and guys would just spawn in and start spamming nades... very annoying.

I also agree that the pointstreak rewards are fine. They actually aren't that easy to earn in my opinion and keep players objective oriented so they should reward the player when they earn them. I just don't like being killed by them over and over :). They were super powerful in MW2 and then they nerfed them every other game after. You work hard to get a reward and you basically might get a kill or two from it. That's why I ran "specialist" a lot in MW3. It was more rewarding to me... Although, it did suck when you lost it.

But so far, I like the map design and how it funnels you into action quickly. Being fast paced is what makes COD, COD. I remember playing Battlefield and having to run or drive all the way across these massive maps, just to get killed by some doucher in chopper or tank and have to start all over again... Not for me.

I've been pretty happy with the weapons that I've used so far. Some times, I think the shotties might be OP and then other times they fail badly. Guess that means they're just right. I mean, a shotty should win a point blank range 9 times out of 10 and it seems to hold true, so yeah.

Damage wise, it does take a little more to kill here than MW3, which I'm fine with. Another adjustment. And yes, aim comes up big! I've found that killing is just a little bit quicker than BO1. Basically in MW2 or 3, if you came across a group of 3, you could come away with a triple spray fairly easy. But on the BO games, if you see two guys at the same time, you're lucky to get both before one gets you. I always find myself hosing the first guy down to probably 98 percent health and leaving to target the second just to get finished by the first guy. It's just cause I'm still used to the MW kill time. I like that it's aim and gun-fighting oriented, I just don't like feeling like the connection is determining the winner of the gunfight.

I'm thinking about getting it. I hated MW3 and it sort of made COD boring and repetitive to me but I'm hearing BO2 is good. I'm waiting for GTA5 though.
