Black or SS Bumper guards??

I have a red 2015 Trail edition.

I ordered a BLACK 2 tube rear bumper guard from a vendor who will remain unnamed. Plan is to add front guard or bulbar later.

Vendor sent a stainless steel bumper guard by mistake.

Once told of the issue, vendor is willing to swap, OR says keep the SS but he'll refund $40 from sell price.

I note that the SS guard is virtually rust proof while black one is made of mild steel and only has a 3 year rust proof guaranty. I tend to keep vehicles for a decade.

Both front and rear of 4Runner have both black and metallic features so either seem to go ok.

What are your thoughts?? I'm leaning toward keeping the SS guard. Opinions wanted!

To put it a bit less harsh.... if you are looking for true protection of your rear and front bumpers.... bumper guards and bull bars are probably not the way to go. They are not well made and will cause more damage than protection. See photos.... save your cash.

Aside from agreeing with the above I would be SHOCKED if it was Stainless Steel, I would think just a chrome plating (could be wrong). Even if it is stainless there are hundreds of grades so to say its a high quality stainless that wont actually rust would be a hope.......IF its truly stainless, then I would def. keep it and just paint it black.

..........take this opportunity to send it back and get something that offers real protection or nothing at all

Excellent points all. My main reason for the rear guard is to act as a place to mount several ham radio antennas, one of which fairly large. I could use the hitch, but this seemed a way to hold multiple antennas across the rear. And while it clearly dosen't save you in case of a real accident, it seemed a way to avoid packing lot "taps".

I'll keep my opinion to myself about the product in question, but I think black will look much better and blend with your trail bumper than silver. Send it back.
