Black piece on the top back of 4runners

I was searching on the forums and couldn't find anything about it.. so now I am asking ... what is that black piece at the top of the 4runner towards the top? What is it's function? I've noticed some 4runner's have them and some don't. For the one's that don't can you have them installed and, do you have any clue how much? Thanks..

I thought it kept you on the road and 120 MPH.

Actually there is one beneifit. When it rains it helps keep the window clean. The wind drives the rain off the window. I have drivien a friends 4Runner without the spoiler and it rained, I did notice a difference, I turned on his rear wiper when I wouldn't on my 4Runner. No big deal though.

I also have one other benefit, when I put my canoe on top of the car, the spoiler helps protect the paint getting scraped by the canoe.

i believe that its supposed to deflect air from the hitting the rear window which i supposed to keep it from getting dusty when off roading.

spoiler, channels air down the back of the truck helps keep the rear window and hatch clean with rain and dust. May help get air inside of the cargo area if you drive with the rear window down. Or if you drive at 200. MPH helps with down force like in NASCAR
Maybe I will install some roof vents in the top of my 4R to keep the truck from flying through the air just in case I enter it in the daytona 500 this year, watch out Earnhardt Jr. I am bringing a V6 4R this year to win with. J/k have a good one

im sure you can find it. def from the dealer which will rape your wallet though. I know performance products sells a nice aftermarket spoiler which looks different but its pretty cool. also try a junkyard.

i've seen a few on ebay once in a while. for those OEM ones you'll need to drill 6 holes in the tailgate, 3 for each bracket - so I decided not to add one on.

yah I just bought a 2000 SR5 4X4 V6.
I came very close to buying an 02 Sport 4X4 V6 but I had to pay cash so settled for a 2000 SR5, but it does have a rear soiler thingy above the hatch so it's all better now.
