Bluetooth STILL skipping

Hey guys, I've been experiencing issues with iPhone audio skipping over Bluetooth in my 2015 4Runner, and through searching have tried various methods like turning Bluetooth off and on after connecting to the vehicle, removing the iPhone/4Runner and re-adding, and making sure that my iPhone is set to connect from phone as opposed to connecting from the vehicle.

Despite doing all those things, my audio still skips. I was able to deal with it for awhile, but the skipping during podcasts and audiobooks is driving me nuts. Has anyone found another solution that works when the ones listed above didn't? I'm hoping Apple or Toyota get his fixed ASAP.

I had some trouble with Bluetooth connectivity a few months ago (2014 Limited). I took it to the dealer and they updated the software, no charge. I have a different radio, but it could be a similar issue.

I haven't had an issue since.

I’ve had this happen. I forgot I’d i restart the phone or reconnect blue tooth fixed it. But it did fix it. It doesn’t always skip. I believe something wrong with with the iOS

I noticed this when the climate here in MN started getting cold. I thought the screen was just slow to respond because of the chilly weather. But it makes a lot more sense that it is rooted from the software.

Yeah... As much as I loathe the stock head unit, this seems to be a problem with iOS 11.anything. :frusty:

How does Entune 3.0 app help at all? I thought this was just for the 2018's that are equipped with 3.0, such as Camry? Not doubting you, so I'm going to download it today and check it out!

I swapped cars with the wife, BT worked in her van and started skipping immediately when I jumped in the 4R. I got a new phone, still skips. When it skips, I plug in the USB and it works. Neither of our phones ever skip in her van, which does not use entune.

I have not had these problems (knocking on wood) my wife and i both have i-phones, and they work flawlessly in our 2017 SR5 P. Using the steering wheel controls while on bt it changes to next song with no hesitation, the only problem we have is trying to get rid of Sirius XM notices, and e-mails.

Don't doubt you, but since I've done those steps, the phone hasn't skipped since (I spend 2hrs / day in the vehicle...currently at 66k miles on my '16)

I can't say it does or doesn't help. It's included because I saw it was available and it was downloaded to attempt to fix this issue. If we can clean up my process through methodical testing I'm all for it.

Gotcha. Also you said "Connect via USB cable to the radio and attempt to update the radio via USB". Does that mean it will update via data through your phone if plugged into the USB port? I've done some searching, and most everything I can find on updating entails downloading to a USB stick from Toyota's website, and then installing into the headunit from there. Thanks!

Correct, utilizing your phone's data connection to update to the latest version of Entune.

No doubt, but you're still not sure which step failed on your previous install so you're really not sure which will fail again (and almost certainly it will).

Yup. Between the 4Runner FB groups and here I think about 5-6 people have responded that their issue has been corrected.

just reporting in that I followed the steps outlined and it seems to have resolved the problem. Note: My problem began with the "head unit freezing and restarting" which necessitated an software update installed via a flash drive, then morphed into the skipping problem which I solved using the steps outlined in this thread. But for now, things seem to be peachy. Let's hope the fix lasts cuz I love the truck other than the finicky radio situation!
