Body swap

SAYWHAT

Rolled the 98 4runner SR5 manual transfer case, body beyond repair but frame, drive train and motor very good. Found a listing for a 96 SR5 but 2 wheel drive. Would a body swap be a viable option? Both are 3.4l with automatic tranny ,any hiccups as far as electronics compatability and so on? Thanks

Have not seen this 96 yet in person. The tranny needs work and hard telling about the frame. Pictures of exterior look good, seller says 99% rust free but seeing and touching can change things fast. I guess just assuming the frame is rusted worse than the 98 and not knowing if the 2wd frame differs from 4wd put me towards a body swap.

I'm pretty sure the 96' has two less body mounts than the later years. Not sure what issues this would pose for you.

I honestly think it wouldn't be more than a 2 day job tho ..

I think the holes and everything are there for the body mounts, I know 4crawler makes a kit to add the body mounts to a 96

There are ALWAYS issues. But don't let that discourage you. Body swaps are not rocket science, just take pictures as you take your old one apart so you aren't left scratching your head about wire routing and where does this little doohickey go type stuff. There are bound to be differences, often even with the same years, but you will overcome those things. Good luck, and enjoy!
