Bora vs Spidertrax spacers

Hi,

Like I asked in an another thread, I have bought TRP PRO wheels for summer and will keep my stock wheels for winter. My question is can I put a little less thicker than 1.25" , like .075" or 1" to have a better looking stance ? oljedi11950 member told me to go with Motorsporttech/bora out of Sparks but everyone here seems to run with spidertrax. I wish to know if there is people running bora's on their 5th gen here ???


I wish to keep my 2016 TEP at stock height for now, but I would like to add spacers, I look at the 1.25" spidertrax and it seem to me that it's a bit too much, rocks and dirt would hit the doors and rear bumper.

I can help.

I ordred Bora .75" spacers and found them to be too short for the lug bolts. Bora was super cool and is trading me for 1". I feel that 1.25" is too much. Bora is a great company and product from all research I've conducted.

I will have my 1" spacers on soon. There is another member on here with them, Cozen89 (I think). He has bushwacker flares so kind of hard to see the "stance" of it but they look nice.

Metal tech has 1" spacers on sale now but they aren't Boras. They are 1/2 price of what Bora is charging now, check it out, they are on clearance.

Since I have Bora's on both my 4r , have 2 different on son's 05 & have had not one problem ! Easy to deal with & have bought studs from as replacements ! Long as there made properly buy from who you like , they offer different size is all I was recommending ! Plus supported local biz & at the time only black spacers(don't like blue) & now see spider makes black !!

So did you encounter any rubbing since you have 285's and the 1" Bora's? I know many people have rubbing issues when pushed out to 1.75" with non-factory wheels and typically 285 is enough tire to cause rubbing all by its lonesome.

Only reason I have strayed from spacers is I don't like the 1.75" option.

Re read the post. I have 1" coming, they are not on my truck so I cant answer that. I would assume some but mine is trimmed already.

All good. From my research, 1" spacer on OEM offset wheels SHOULD be fine with out a body mount chop. I am prepared to do it though if there is any rubbing. You are for sure going to need to trim plastic in the front fenders to make it all work, even with 285s and no spacers.

Thanks for you answer Scharfschütze, I was hesitating between 1inch and 0,75. I will probably order the 1inch soon, price is not an issue, I want a better quality so I will order Bora's. Can you post pics when it will be on ?

My truck is stock so even with OEM wheels and tire size, I will have to trim and move fender foward, am I correct ?
Also, Do I need an alignment after that?

Sure I will. Bora is awesome. Its a father/son outfit, Lenny and Lenny Jr. Talked to them both, good guys. Quality is excellent.

I am not sure on stock everything, probably not much trimming if any though.

You do NOT need an alignment after spacers.

Stock Wheel
17 inch x 7.5 inch x 15mm offset

TRD Pro Wheel
17 inch x 7.0 inch x 4 mm offset

Pro wheels are half inch less wide but offset is better on Pro wheels about almost 1/2". So, I'm not sure if it will be too much. For me, it's difficult to figure the real difference between the outside of these wheels, which one will be more out and about how many inch?? Anyone else have Trd Pro wheels with spacers.

Hey man, plug it all into Online Wheel and Tyre Fitment Calculator. Offset, Tyre Stretch and Speedo Error | Will They Fit and it'll clear it up for you. If you are OK to trim some I think you'll be fine either way.

I installed the Bora 1" spacers yesterday and I also switch to summer tires (new BF KO2 mounted on TRD PRO wheels), At 90 KM/H, it start shaking and at 110KM/H, the steering woble a lot. I tried to switch tires from rear to front and it was worst.

The guy told me these tires was hard to balance ??? I had that on my Tacoma and it has never been an issue... Finally I put back my winter tires that I know they are balanced correctly and it do shake a bit more than before I put spacers.

Has anyone have vibration problem with spacers? They are supposed to be hub and stud centric.

Did your tire guy use a wheel balancing machine that spins the tire? If not, he may not have balanced them correctly. I've read that KO2's are notoriously difficult to balance.

It was done at my local Toyota dealer and they said the machine cost them 20000$ and it is brand new.

I've ran Bora, G2, and Spidertrax spacers in the past. They are all about the same as far as quality.
Your vibration issue is most likely being caused by some balance issue.

When you installed the spacers, did you take your time and clean the seating surface really well? Did you install the lugs like you would the rim? In a star pattern? As long as they are properly mounted they shouldn't cause any vibration issue.

I am very meticulous to clean every surface in contact each time I remove wheels, I'll start from beginning by the end of the week. I'll remove spacers and put my new wheels, if it still vibrate, they will have to balance it better.

Another question: I did move fender liner 1 " forward and trim a part of the front bumper and mudflap and I still have a bit of rubbing on the mudflaps. Do you guys had to removed front mudflap when adding spacers. I run stock tire size (BF KO2) on TRD wheels ?

The KO2s are notorious for being difficult.... You may have to do a road force balance as has been mentioned in some other threads. It would seem, the older the KO2s get, the harder they are to balance. I discovered this the last time I went in for rotation. I have my front two tires balanced every time I do a rotation.

Are you positive that the lug bolts arent sticking out a bit past the spacers? I had that issue with mine and eventually just went to 1.25" Boras. The fronts fit the 1" spacers but the rear lug bolts are a tad longer, making the 1" too short. SOME wheels have voids on the contact pad for the hub that make this a non issue. Not sure about the TRDP wheels though.
