You can install the BSB with the sliding tray, it just won't slide anymore! The turnbuckles it comes with will extend that much further down and lock the box in place on top of the sliding tray.

True however I wonder if/how it effects figment being higher up like that. Seats may not recline all the way back (I don’t think I care about that?)

I may end up just removing the sliding tray and getting the standard carpet setup back there.

The right side lock rod fell out on mine as well, installed loctite. I contacted the company and they said that they would start applying loctite to the rods and fasteners. Also, check the central bolt that holds the lock arm in place, mine was very loose.

The right side of mine came loose as well. Fixed it with blue lock tite.

My wife (120 LB ish) slept on top of it last week. Didn’t even dent the top or flex.

Anyone install some type of layered foam insert into the dealers for your equipment? If so which foam?

Got back from a trip out west and imediately ordered one of these.
Cant wait to get out camping again with this, it lets me organize things so much better,
and makes the sleeping platform setup so much easier and smaller of a section to insert when I need.
Shown here with and without the side "wings" added.
I added a small angle to the front of the box that my sleeping platform board lays on.
So far very happy with this setup!

As well as sleeping area it will be easier to slide in "stuff".

Had Box for over a year now 4th Gen

Merry Christmas gang.

I haven't been on the boards for a while and coming back to it.

BOSS strong box has been with me over a year now. It totally fits my needs for camping and outdoor gear.

As you know this is marketed to 5th Gen. however the dimensions fit the 4th gen as well. Mine is 2003 and measured the advertised dimensions and fits like a glove.

I added "beauty panels" to the Face to give it a clean, finished look. Made from Kydex, hot glue and magnets.

Fridge slide?

Thanks for all these pictures, and for all these observations on the Boss box! I know this thread hasn't been active for a while, but thought I'd try asking a question anyway. Have any of you have tried putting a fridge slide on top of it? It's hard for me to tell how thick the top is. Seems like a tilting fridge slide on this thing would be a perfect setup for me... but only if that won't damage the box. Thanks!

I figure it would hold up just fine, just have to get the force distributed on a large area.
You could used very large washers, or better yet,
For added strength, you could always bolt the fridge rails down through the box, then through a metal bar inside the box,
Think of the bar acting as one long continuous washer for the bolts.
that for sure would be more than strong enough.

Thanks a lot for that info. Sounds like a good solution. If I end up buying this box and mounting a fridge to the top, I'll post a photo. This thing really is pretty close to what I was hoping to find. Still haven't ruled out building my own box (out of plywood), but I really like the idea of a metal box.

I thought about building one also, and even with todays insane wood prices it would still be cheaper.
But I hate when a box itself takes up space, The metal boxes tend to have more storage per their size, since their walls are very thin.
Plus this box was basically what I would have built, I really like the fit and how they designed it, so just went with it.
I store my fridge on my rear driver side seat, folded down.
This keeps it lower in the vehicle than on top the box.

Some of the multiple drawer setups are sweet, BUT, there is SO much wasted space with the extra walls and rails.
I like how these boxes have the one thin divider down the middle, taking up no extra space.
And if you wanted to, Im sure it wouldnt be too hard to fab some other dividers and bolt them into the boxes one hug drawer.

That article with all those detailed photos gives me a lot to work with. Thanks a bunch for that one and all the others I've read. I'm loving my 4Runner already, and it's just going to get better as I modify it for my own purposes. This forum and sites like trail4runner make it so much easier to figure out what to try, whether it's gonna work, and what issues might come up. And I never have to worry about what to do with any extra money I might have anytime soon, either....

About to pull the trigger on one of these, only dilemma is the factory slide in my truck. I see lots of people saying “shouldn’t be a problem” - but has anyone actually done it and confirmed it’s not a problem? I can’t see why 2” of height under it would make a difference, especially if the turnbuckles are long enough. But I want to make sure before I send a $1300, 200lb pallet across the country.
