Bought a 3rd Gen yesterday 1999 5 speed

Picked up this cherry 3rd gen yesterday for a song IMO. No rust, runs and drives excellent. Very tight stearing, no leaks besides valve cover gaskets which shouldn't be terrible to replace. It needs TB in 15k but again Dad's a mechanic w/ 30+ years experience so I'm set there.



Specs:

1999

3.4 V6 with 205k miles

5 speed

4x4

SR5

2 owners



It does not have the rear locker but I plan to put an aftermarket one in. I will have more pictures this evening.



It's crazy how good of shape this thing is in. Factory paint is excellent. The original owner serviced the truck at the dealer until he or she sold it at 170k. The second owner had a spread sheet of what had been done so records were excellent.



No rust at all, anywhere. I had a 1990 2nd gen in high school that was a 4cyl auto. Terrible MPG and no power at all.

How do you know if only the valve cover gaskets leaking? Just curious how you pinpoint that? I have an oil leak also.

Even at 16yrs old and 200k miles you've bought as good a truck as money could buy...

To be 100% honest, I was there while my Dad put it up on the lift but he was the one that has the experience and this was what he told me. I assume he saw oil seepage around the valve covers. I'll see if I can get a picture next time we have it on the lift.

Thank you! I've wanted one for almost 10 years since I had my first 2nd gen. Looked long and hard for this one. Really wanted the rear locker but couldn't find one in decent shape.

congrats, now it's time for a new buyers tune up. looks like it was garage kept to have the paint look that good. mine took a lot of buffing to get that shine.
