Back story - Replaced all the calipers and flex lines about 6 years ago and ended up with a much softer brake pedal. No amount of bleeding would fix it. Since my 4Runner hasn't been my primary vehicle, ended up with another seized front caliper a couple years ago, replaced and still soft pedal. Since I'm driving so much less now (even pre-COVID) I'm planning on returning my 4Runner to shared daily use and returning my Tacoma.
While I know it has been repeated ad nauseam that you SHOULD NOT need to use any tool I think it has also been seen that a lot of times people have problems getting the pedal to firm up.
I was able to get a Foxwell NT644 Elite OBD Scanner / Tool pretty cheap and I've tried to use that to actuate the ABS actuators. Unfortunately the instructions are pretty terrible. It seems like it isn't a bad unit but just poor support. I did attempt to use the "inlet air bleed" and "outlet air bleed" settings yesterday. Something definitely happened and after bleeding at the calipers again, the pedal seems a little bit firmer but still way too soft for comfort.
Does anyone have experience with this scanner, another one similar to it, or other insight on how to use or process to bleed the ABS units? Like, do I hold the pedal and then run the cycle? Do I have to do a bunch of times? I have looked at the Toyota instruction info but since that is directly referencing using a check mode box it doesn't really help with this tool. As it stands now if I can't do myself I'll take to a dealer or other shop and pay them but I was hoping to avoid that. Otherwise I'm out of ideas, I've pumped entire bottles of fluid through it at this point.
