Possible MC ABS unit failure

Hey all,

I got a weird brake issue. When I press the brake pedal it feels fine for a second and then it's slowly going all the way to the floor.
No codes, tried bleeding brakes with scan tool as usual, rear with scan tool and front conventional with buddy assist. My truck is 08-2004 which is a part number change for ABS unit. I suspect that I have to replace the whole unit but not too sure and don't know if newer unit will fit from 2006+ since mine could be with older unit from 2003 up to 2005. Did anyone have this exact issue or knows if older 4th gen can have 2008 ABS assembly?

Did you thoroughly inspect your rotors, pulled each one off and looked at both sides? I was sure my M/C was failing earlier this year but on advice from Car Care Nut, I did a thorough inspection and found a seized caliper and backside of one front rotor wiped out. Replaced with new and all is good!

My brakes fully serviced, I guess unfortunately in this case. All calipers move, pins not rusted and pads and rotors evenly worn, passing safety.

2008 4runner Master Cylinder piston, I found the part # and fixed it!!!

Did anyone try this repair on 2003-2005 models with this P# 47026-60090 ?

I have a 2004 T4R with a build date of 08/2003 and Toyota says that part number doesn't fit my master cylinder, I did however find this..."Toyota 04493-60350 Brake Master Cylinder Repair Kit"...which does fit mine and it's less than half the price of that other part, not sure if it will work for you or not.

Seems like this is specific for V8.

I can't see why the engine would make a difference, so I changed it for the V6 and it says it fits.

Try entering your VIN number and see what it says.

With VIN check it's confirmed, that it does not fit unfortunately.

I checked it with my Vin for my '03/V8 and got a confirmed fit, so it must be V8 specific for some reason.

Parts are visually different, maybe for v8 it's more heavy-duty LOL.

The bad part is that without you taking your master cylinder apart you really don't know which piston is in yours.

This is an awesome thread and a fix. My '03 V8 works with this item as well as confirmed with the VIN at this place which is local to me. At 450xxx miles, i might just buy it and hang on to it.
