Brake Caliper- 04 4runner

Doing my first brake job on my 04 4 runner- how do you get the 17mm bolt pins to break loose and turn without stripping the heads?
I've tried socket and wrench and hammer.

im assuming you mean the rear caliper slide pins?

Try harder.

Use a breaker bar, put a jack handle over the bar to give you more leverage

I just did rear brakes the other day and those bolts came out with my impact no problem.

Not dumb they are just reversed so making sure.

Yeah, counter clock wise if you're looking at the head of the bolt.

also use a 6 pt socket, not a 12 to reduce risk of rounding

Got them loose and the caliper off- any suggestions on best way to get the rotor off? I am changing those too

Make sure parking brake is off. Turn the rotor so that the parking brake adjuster hole is at the 6 o clock position. Stick a flat head screw driver in and turn that little wheel to back the shoes off the rotor(there are various videos detailing this) when it's backed off and it still won't come off, beat the hell out of it with a hammer until it does. Or you can utilize the provided threaded holes in the rotor and use a bolt to back it off, but I find the hammer method easier.

Soaking them in PBblaster might help...... Mine were pretty corroded due to New England winters and it made all the difference when I did mine....
