Brake issue and stiff steering on startup in extreme cold?

Flush steering pump to eliminate growl.

My steering pump used to growl and be somewhat stiff when cold in central texas, nothing compared to you guys up north of course.

I resolved it by having the steering pump flushed, the fluid came out black as can be. That was 5 years ago, still working as it was just tested past weekend when it dropped to a whopping 19 degrees here for 2 mornings. :cowboy:

Happy to say I just did this today. I have a head cold so I figured this would be taking it easy. Here's a picture of the part in question for those of you who are like me and just have to see the part to know what you're doing. It's the shiny obviously new silver part in the center of the frame.

Temps are going to dip into the teens again in the middle of next week so I'm hoping this resolves the hard braking pedal when it's super cold out!

I had the hard brake pedal last winter. Scary when the pedal is rock hard and you can't stop. I read at the time that someone said a simple fix was to remove the valve and simply spray WD40 and replace. I didn't do it, but it hasn't done the hard pedal thing this year at all ! It's been down to -26c too !
I did spray WD40 quite liberally in and around the engine bay and on that part, now whether that helped any I don't know.

Did the same thing, clean fluids are a miracle worker! Who would've guessed.....
