Whats the best way to get the rotors off? does the large center piece need to be unscrewed CCW first or should the rotor slide off around it?

I've only removed the front rotors, but if removing the rears is anything similar, you'll just need to remove the wheel, detach the caliper (and make sure you hang it from a coat hanger or something so as not to damage the brake lines), and then utilize a BAH (big ass hammer) to loosen the rotor from the hub assembly. You may have to hit it harder than you'd imagine you would, but it'll eventually come off.

get the caliper, and bracket out of the way, the rotor should just slide off.

i say should, toyota have a very tight fit on the hub..and there is likely rust.
also make sure the e-brake is OFF.

there should be 2 small threaded holes in between the studs. get the proper size/pitch bolts ansd screw them in. go slow, and do them equally.

also, spray some penetrating oil around the hub, and each stud, and in those thread holes.
go slow, it will come off.

When you get the caliper & mounting bracket off, the rotor is free to come off. The rotor slides off over the hub in the center. There are drum brake shoes for the parking brake in the "hat" of the rotor. That's why you have to make sure the parking brake is not on. Even with that, you have to be careful that the rotor hat does not hang on the brake shoes. If it hangs and you try to force it off too hard, you can jack up the parking brake assembly. If you need to, the drum brake shoes can be retracted by turning the star wheel on the self adjuster but you have to rotate the rotor to the correct position so that the rotor access hole is in front of the star wheel. PIA....hope that it comes off after you break the corrosion between the rotor and the hub.

I just happened to replace my rear rotors and pads yesterday.

Even though the parking brake was off, I still rotated the adjustment wheel all the way to retracted position in order to minimize the chances of the rotor hanging up on the brake shoes.

Once the caliper bracket was removed, i had to use a heavy hammer to break the bond between the rotor and hub. My car isn't rusty, as I live in Colorado, so I was very surprised by the amount of beating I had to give those rotors to break them free from the hub. Just a little bit of surface rust on those two mating surfaces really glued them in place.

Came here to say this very thing.

I totally destroyed my parking brake on one side and it was a real treat to reassemble.
