Brand of engine oil?

I run Mobile 1 5w-30 most of the time in all my vehicles (Corolla, Infiniti G35 Sedan, 4runner) and I stock up on it at costco when it's on sale (about $26 IIRC). If I run out of Mobile 1, I look for Castrol Syntec Edge at VatoZone when it's on sale, but 90% of the time I'm on Mobile 1.

I purchased a case of toyota oil filters for both Toyotas from Camelback Toyota. As for the G35 I usually pick up a Wix or Fram duragard when they are on sale as I need them.

Put the window sticker on each car for 5K miles which kinda 'warns' me I'm getting close and usually do it before 6K.

sounds like some people on here need to do a little more research on engine oil!

changing oil before the recommended interval is like running high octain when it calls for 87. you are just wasting money but i guess if if you like wasting money then keep going! but i think a some of you need to snoop around on here

I run Amsoil with 4.7L toyota brand oil filter(just a little extra oil capacity) and change it every 10k! I run my trucks hard but i do live in florida so the only thing close to a hill is a bridge! I know my runner has only had Amsoil in it since it was a few years old and i don't have any leaks and have never seen a check engine light on!

I didn't miss that. A) I've always had higher mileage vehicles and been leery of switching and causing new leaks. And B) I've also been under a budget so conventional is the cheaper (in the short term) way to go. So I followed his rational

"The fact is, if I was relegated to choosing EITHER high efficiency filtration OR synthetic oil for my vehicle, I would choose high efficiency filtration, hands down. For the money, you get more benefit from improved filtration than you do from improved lubrication with a synthetic oil." On page 82

And yes I realize the next paragraph says

"However, I would also say, synthetic oils do still provide a significant increase in engine protection. So, since we don't have to choose between them, I would highly recommend the combination of a good synthetic oil and a high efficiency oil filter for maximum protection of your engine."

So no I didn't miss that he prefers synthetic.

I have ran nothing but 100% synthetic usually Amsoil since 1977.
There are only about 3-4 real synthetics (Group IV and V) on the market, the rest are Group III.

I don't drive a whole lot usually so I change my oil once per year, I rarely drive more than 5000 miles per year.
If I go on a long trip I would have no problems letting it go 8000 miles or so, especially since it would be mostly all highway miles.

I wouldn't run conventional oil any further than 3000 miles personally.
It starts to break down the first mile you drive on it.
