Breaks seem to grind?

Today, I noticed my tire was low, so I went to get air. Then, on the way home, I heard my breaks grinding. At first, I thought it was a plane pretty high up, but a bit louder. So I tried breaking, and it made the same noise. It seems to happen more when I'm at lower speeds breaking, but it continues to happen. I also feel like it's somewhat happening when I'm just driving, but a lot lighter. Any ideas?

Could it possibly be the wear indicator on the pads? I've never experienced it before, so I don't know what that sounds like.
 
is it a low very low like sliding noise?

Mine makes this noise too, more noticeable on the driver side than passenger. I was worried this was maybe the start of a seized piston? I can hear it when i drive and it does it when i jack the car up and spin the tire on both sides. I chalked it up for just the pad alignment and its slightly touching the rotor like they should be? Both sides had same resistance.
 
I had a similar noise coming from a frozen brake piston... I got the best (worst) of both worlds... Frozen piston on the left, and wheel bearing on the right. :(

I did both myself. I did upgraded by rotors/calipers to the Sport size and replaced the wheel bearing using a preassembled ebay kit and a walkthrough from this site.
 
One of my rear (on the pass side) started grinding about 3-4 months after i bought it. put on new pads and turned out the slide pins weren't greased, completely dry. put on the new pads and greased up the slide pins, not a sound since. I'd look and make sure the pad isn't metal to metal like mine was, because if it is youre wearing down your rotor and theyll need to be replaced. luckily i caught mine before they got too bad and didn't need to replace my rotors. :trophy::bolt:

thanks for this. had to drive to school today, and it felt like the breaks were causing this, so when I get home, ill take th rim off and check it.

my pads are brand new, maybe 3k miles on them. I cleaned up the slide pins and made sure there wasnt anything stuck anywhere and i messed with the adjuster clip. It sits on the rotor and you can hear it slide on it when spinning. I think im just overthinking it.

Is yours more of a squeal in the grind? Mine's a rougher grind, almost like dragging something across rocks.
 
High pitched squeal most of the time = pad wear indicator
Helicopter sound while driving that goes away when turning to the left or right = wheel bearing
crunching noise when you step in the brakes = glazed rotor or pad generally cause by cheap pads

guess i've determined that it's the pad or the rotor, then.
