Most of the CRAZY SCENIC pictures are from The White Rim Trail which is a 9 - 11 hour drive and usually done over 2 days.
It is located in Canyonlands National Park near the Island In The Sky visitors center.
To camp overnight you need to have a permit but we didn't camp overnight. We were prepared to sleep in the trucks if we couldn't find a hidden spot off the trail to put up once dusk hit.
One of the first things you notice out there is that most of the campsites are actually empty despite being sold out.
I think what happens is that local tour companies buy up all the spots so they can take people on these multi-day thousand $$$ tours once they get enough sign ups. I don't know for sure but that is what I think happens and it is BS.
If you are ever in that area with family I highly suggest making a nice 2 day drive out of it and just camping off the path about 1/2 to 2/3 the way through. The trail is listed as 3-4 and it is pretty easy if you go slow.

Great pictures! We are headed down there in two weekseparate for a three week vacation. My forth time, my wife's thirteenth. Can hardly wait!
