I am a human. There are bots on this forum and no they are not just outright obvious. Someone / organization is likely testing AI by posting here on the forum. I don't now how many users are bots but I know I'm not the only one who noticed. Simply look at their profile, not a single post actually related to 4Runners and they often lead to an outside for-profit website that sells something. Sadly lots of T4R users (got me at first) are replying to these threads.

I think most of the posts seen here in the last while have all been bots. I think we have entire threads of AI bots talking to one another.

Not sure why nothing is being done, but the vast majority of posts I see on here lately are from new accounts with atrocious grammar asking vague questions and linking to outside sites.

The funny/disturbing part is seeing how many members seem to be fooled by this and respond.

It's actually worrying to think we may not be that far off from AI bots that the majority of us can't differentiate from real users.

I know for a fact that academics have done this in the past on forums. I listed to a podcast on economics (not sure if it was Planet Money) where they interviewed a researcher who created a bot with male name and another with female name to post the same AI generated economics forum chit-chat and over a series of months they studied the responses to grade how the male forum members treated the poster based on their gender. The idea was both bots were using the same AI database so if there was bias it could be detected. This was all part of a research paper and posted on one of the most popular economics forums.

Still, this kind of research on a public forum is definitely a dick move.

This one is much trickier but NONE of the posts are about 4Runners (AT ALL) and they say some type of sentence that leads to an outside website that sells something or aggregates selling something.

Padding their post count so they look more legitimate when they start posting political memes before the next election??

I mean, research is certainly a possibility, but I wonder if the motive isn't more sinister?

Could just be trying to get clicks on their links to sell junk. Who knows.
 
There are more bots posting and conversing at T4R than humans at this point.

Maybe since T4R banned political discussion they are creating bots to make posts because other than the bots it’s essentially a ghost town as far the inter webs is concerned.

It’s kinda sad. This site used to be pretty good.

Now it’s just the same old “which tire”, “which lift”, with the obligatory “use the search button” response and a ton of bots jacking each other off.

Get your shit together, T4R...

Should the mods ban these bots? It is tough to for sure say someone is a bot however this site is definitely infected. My list is pretty solid and I only searched for 5 minutes in off-topic.

I am beginning to think the bots are OK by this site.

Why would so many get by the account joining process?

Why are they not removed?

Why do so many not recognize them and reply to them?

The Off Topic section is like having cockroaches wandering thru your dining room without a care in the world and no one has RAID.
 
I would report them but the last time I did that I ended up getting banned and it took months to get it sorted out.

An admin was too busy watching Big Bang theory and locked the wrong account I'm guessing. I emailed the admins and they never answered. I had to call a buddy who got in touch with the right person to unlock my account.

About that time I started posting more in the Tacoma forums. It's a much larger site with so many different topics you could read and post all day.
