Broken Weld Nut for Hitch Mount

Well, I dun gone and dunnit. :yell:
I was planning to mount a hitch receiver and was taking off the L side tow hook and one of the weld nuts popped loose. What I'm thinking of doing is grinding the bolt's head off then fishing a new nut and washer through the frame. I'll have to order the new hardware unless I can find Grade-8 nuts and washers locally.
Anyone have any other ideas?

sounds like a good plan.
you should be able to find matching hardware locally.

keep in mind, the rest of the truck uses metric fasteners, it would be easier to keep them all the same.
what im saying is, you don't want a grade 8, as that is an SAE designation.

you'll want something like an 8.8 or 10.2.

Thanks! I'll go figure out my bolt strength terminology when I'm not brain dead.:dizzy:
Now I'm wondering if fishing a bolt & washer through the frame instead of a nut would be simpler. It's simple enough to epoxy some string to the end of a bolt. Not so with a nut. Plus, once I try to thread in the bolt and the nut moves inside the frame I'd realize I'm an idiot, again.

The day wasn't a total loss. I put on 2 18W LED spotlights on for reverse lights.

I encountered the same issue. Some snapped off and others broke free the internal nut thus I was forced to use a sawzall.
