Budbuilt hidden winch plate?

Little update. My hidden winch mount is ordered and should be here in a couple weeks. They are out of steel for winch plates right now.

Bud Built told me that they weren't available yet. I gave them my email address and they were supposed to email me when it was available. This was around a month ago...

i think there has been alot of misc info floating around; but i was never told they were not available. They accepted my payment informed me that the steel shipment for these should be there later this coming week. I have been e-mailing with him since April; over that time frame dates and related info were eluded to but never confirmed. I figured i would just pay and then 'hopefully' get hard info.

I still don't have it, but once i do or at least get another update i will post details.

I'm very interested in this also. Will check back to see how it's going... Curious how large a winch can fit into the space, etc.

Still waiting. The email I received from them when I paid indicated they would keep me in the loop and that they expected the steel late last week. I sent them an email Friday night, hopefully hear something sooner than later.
 
Looks like Budbuilt spoke too soon. Turns out the Gen4 winch plates never actually arrived at Budbuilt and thus never went to the powder coater..

The last email this afternoon indicated it takes extra time to get new products bend and ready from their steel vendor. Hopefully they will able to pickup the parts from their steel vendor this Saturday; then off to powder-coating..

i hope they're compensating you, this sounds like BS/treklights all over again
 
Hmm, very interested in this. Nice option for winch install vs. buying the whole aftermarket bumper. For me it would be a great "middle ground" way to get my winch installed, and later be able to upgrade to a full bumper.

Hopefully all goes well in terms of your sale. Otherwise it would be a huge turn off for future business.
 
For what you pay for one of these, your a long way towards a real bumper. Might be better to fab one yourself if they are giving the run-around...
 
I honestly believe it is their laser steel Cutter. They are kind of stuck in the middle. They want to make me happy, but they also need the laser cut material from their vendor. Hopefully Saturday I will know.

For me this is the happy medium of having a winch yet not having the weight of a full metal bumper. For my use I just don't need the full metal bumper.

With it being a family run biz, they have a few people answering email and the phone. So I think things get overlooked sometimes.

How is $350 a "long way" towards a bumper that could cost in the range of $1000-$1800 depending on brand & options??

And as Ebg18t has mentioned, the weight savings alone would be a big plus for those that don't want to add the weight of an entire front bumper just to mount a winch.

Not to mention a few hundred bucks in freight shipping the bumper. You can also sell the hidden winch mount in the future to offset some of your costs.

I have the 5th gen hidden winch mount, and will get a Shrockworks or perhaps a 4x4labs front bumper in the next 9-18 months.

If the 4th gen hidden winch mount is anything like the 5th gen, I assure you, you could not have something fabricated one-off for near the same price.
 
$350 for a mount that you can install a winch in, or add light tabs or add D rings too like I've seen on some Tacos. is a pretty good deal.

That sucker may be my next mod.
 
Don't get me wrong Aviator31...I love fabbing up my own stuff. On my last off road rig (XJ Cherokee) I built both the front & rear bumpers, the sliders, and the rear quarter panel armor and if not for upgrading to the Runner would have built the cage as well. But, if you can find a part you like that someone has already done the R&D on and at the same time not spend a fortune, it makes a lot of sense to not go through the trouble of building it.

For $350, it seems a small price to pay if all you want to do is mount up a winch...I mean you probably paid three to four times that (if not more) for the winch.
