Built a sleeping platform!

My wife and I are driving out to Colorado and Utah and plan on sleeping in the back of the truck for a portion of the time.

Here is our solution that set us back only $40 bucks!

Good stuff. You must be shorter than I. I don't think I could get much sleep scrunched up with the rear hatch closed.

It's definitely not a king bed. I'm 5'11. With the front seats fully pushed up, there is well over 6'5 feet of length. The platform however is not that full length. So my feet hang off a bit.

It's not to bad tho!

We'll see what I have to say after a night on it tho!

I like it! Simple, effective and CHEAP!

That's my kind of mod. I suck with any type of woodworking but even I could probably try something like this.

Yep! It's possible. But the hinged piece can only be 27 inches long with our build/setup or else it gets caught on the roof. You may be able to gain a inch or two depending where you have the hinge.

You might want to see if the FrontRunner Wolfpack boxes will support your additional piece that folds down where your piano hinge is. They are 9" tall and fit perfectly in the backs of the rear seats. Great place to store your least used items such as tools and recovery gear.


Anyway, just throwing out an idea.

As you can see, there is plenty of room to slide them in and out of the passenger door opening.



This is what the look like side-by-side resting on the backs of the rear seats. Again, plenty of room and they're not permanent. When you're done, just remove them and put them on your shelf in the garage. Ready for your next trip.


Her's an example of what I keep in one of the boxes. I have an ARB tire repair kit, a couple of gator jaw soft shackles, a snatch block, an ISC (RP057) rigging pulley, tree saver, tool rolls along with a few other miscellaneous items. This box is a necessity but not used if all goes well.

They are nice!! I think 9inches may be to tall tho as the lowered seats are a little higher than the cargo floor. We where throwing around the idea of cutting milk crates to the correct height. But I'll keep looking around!

Those boxes would be nice tho!
