Burn Barrel

Hey guys - I'm planning to get a 55 gal drum for burning a lot of sensitive paperwork and excess lumber that's piled up over the years. I'm trying to figure out a smart and cheap way to make a screen for the top to keep the ash and embers under control. I can't weld or anything. The only thing I've come up with is to pick up some thick wire mesh and wire it to some rebar or metal rods that will extend across the top. Any other ideas or suggestions?

If you can find an old farming disc (for discing fields), that will work too. They fit pretty well on top of big drum barrels.

drill holes in the top of the barrel and slide the rebar through the holes to make a grill.

that's just using what you have otherwise get some chicken wire and just chuck it across the top and use a few bricks to weight it down, also punch a few holes in the bottom for air flow.

Perfect! Yeah I was planning a few holes around the bottom but didn't think to add some to the top for bars.
