Burning smell after use of 4wd

I recently used 4wd and I noticed a burning smell after I got back to my house and switched back to 2wd then turned off the car and there was a burning smell I have noticed this a couple times

Have you greased the zerk fittings on your front driveshaft recently? Sometimes if you have and haven't used 4wd for a while when you do, the excess grease will fly off and sometimes contact hot engine parts, etc? Just a thought. :shrug:

If you don't often use 4WD and you get regular maintenance then my money would be on grease slinging out of the CV's and double-cardon joints in the front driveshaft onto the exhaust or other hot part in that area (heat shield, whatever.)

I hate to say try it again but maybe give the underside a good rinsing and then try it again...

I do grease the joints but thats for the rear drive shaft ill have to try the front ones

When using said 4wd did you go through any water or mud. I was driving along a river in some sand/mud and dang that mud was stinky! especially when on a hot exhaust... Just saying it could be mud or old river funk...

Also. I don't think being in or out of 4wd would make a difference. Our trucks do not have auto/manual hubs.

Auto hubs were really horrid and always wonky. Our hubs are always connected to the half shafts, meaning regardless of where or not it is in 4wd; our wheels and shafts are spinning.

When you engage 4wd, the front diff connects up.

Unless I am mistaken and the v6's have auto hubs? I have a v8, so I apologize if wrong. But I didn't think the front wheel hubs were unconnectable. I thought always..
