Burning Smell Coming From Rear

Axle seals are pretty frequent failures but you should see evidence of grease being slung on the back side of that wheel. I'd get under there and see if you can pinpoint it

If it is the axle seal on that side, I'd also replace/relocate your diff breather. Both of my axle seals went over the course of 12 months and before replacing the second one, I replaced the breather on the rear diff which was functioning incorrectly (and relocated it behind the gas filler). My theory is pressure build-up from heat helped those seals fail but who knows.

I did look for grease on the back side of the wheel, didn't see any.
The one on the passenger side, I had noticed that when I put on a tow hitch...after Firestone had already replaced it.
So I took it back and they replaced it under warranty.

The breather you speak of, where is the default location?
I will look into seeing if I can relocate it.

I struggled with the issue for a while. lubed the caliper twice which I thought helped but ultimately tracked it down to an exhaust leak. The exhaust runs over the axle before dumping on the passenger side. The weld leaving the muffler had cracked and I only noticed it after long enough for it to rattle at idle.
After having a new muffler welded up the issue has yet to return.
Smell was a funky burning almost electrical smell but I never found any damage to anything so it must have just been excessive heat on the tire/bumpstops or something like that. I guess the weld crack is common in states with high road salt usage.

i had that problem...intermittent sticking caliper, was hard to figure out till i shot the caliper and wheels with a temp gun and found passenger rear caliper was much warmer.

Replacing the caliper is the only cure for a sticking caliper, it's best to replace both sides instead of just one side, also replace the pads as well.

Yes best practice would be to change both Left and Right calipers and pads and a brake fluid flush.
Ill be honest when cash was short Ive only done the sticking side until i could do the other.
