How did you not know it was salvaged? The title would have shown that, if it didn't he committed fraud.

I believe in TX you have a duty to disclose the title, salvage, etc. You can get out of this sale, if need be.

And this is a larger.... "Caveat emptor" always remains true.

Yea. I just looked it up, TX law requires disclosure.

Sue him. Contact him and tell him he has 5 days to process a refund and take possession of the vehicle. If he fails to comply you will 1. contact the police for fraud (criminal) and sign out a warrant and 2. Sue him in Civil Court for fraud .

It was disclosed as salvage. He's upset (rightfully) so because the dash showed 135K miles, the title showed EXEMPT and the original auction pics show 276K miles.

thing is however that a CARFAX is NOT in anyway a sure fire solution for this type of misrepresentation.
There have been MANY cars completely totaled and never show up on any Carfax.
There are about 20 states where if the car comes from that state then carfax is basically worthless.

So the best by far is to have a good trusted mechanic go over it, check the numbers on the panels, see if anything has been replaced, bent frame etc.

All the more reason to get a Carfax. Carfax offers a buyback guarantee.

Re-read it. The context of that line was that if he was looking to "flip" it he would've stopped when the guy told him it was a salvage title.

as far as the wheels go, the alloys that were on it when i bought it were 15" and only had 1 good tire and no spare. yes it is for the most part a step down with the steel wheels but the steel wheels and tires only had 8 miles on them when they came off the tacoma and they are 16" with a spare, so I got a brand new set of 5 16" wheels which have dunlop AT20 grandtrek tires for $300. it was a very budget minded purchase. as for the title, I knew it was salvage before I drove 2 hours to test drive my t4r, the pics on craigslist showed the odometer at 135,000 miles. the guy over the phone when I asked about the title told me it was a salvage title. I asked the nature of the salvage, he said it was a mild front collision, so i asked about airbags, pics showed airbags intact, and told me they were not deployed that he would show me pics of the damage if i wanted. once I made the 2 hour drive, and looked it over (I have been a toyota tech for 3 years) I test drove it and to me it ran and drove like it had alot less than 135,000 miles and the air was ice cold so I gave the guy $3000 and he handed me the salvage title. Knowing it was a salvaged title, the fact that the mileage said exempt, it didnt bother me because I knew it had been wrecked. yesterday, while being bored, googling my vin gave me a link to pics of the t4r before repairs and the odometer was at 275k. the odometer is what pissed me off, not that it was salvaged. this purchase was not made with the thought of selling it later, I bought it wanting to keep it as long as I possibly can. I will see if I can find the pics again
