Buying a used T4R. Couple of questions

so, walrus, did you buy one yet? give us an update. if not, drive both the v6 & v8, get the one you like most. everyones driving habits are different so theyre MPG will be. i drove both engines in 06 before buying , both were just fine, but i always had a select drive in all my 4x4s, & only 1 with a v8, so i went with the V8 & fulltime 4wd for a change. it seems to get better mpg than my 08 v6 highlander, if that means anything to you. the 1-2 mpg wasnt enough of a difference in the 4r for me to worry about. ( 5 might be) also, the v6 in the HL is slightly louder . maybe its just the poor sound proofing in it, but from what i remember, it is in general .nothing the stereo cant solve. after a few years of owning mine, i have no regrets, its really runs smooth & im almost perfectly satisfied with the choice i made. wish the AC was stronger tho. good luck!

I was ready to give up till fall. Drove at least a dozen t4r's at a half dozen Toyota dealerships. Went on line and found an '05 at Sewell Hummer Saab Plano. I was really targeting a Sport edition but this SR5 was so perfect that I couldn't pass it up. They worked with me on the trade in and price with no games or stress. None of the "Deal or no Deal" BS. Pearl White, 38k miles, leather, brand new tires, filters, never towed anything, the works. Not a blemish on it. It was a wife-mobile. And best of all its from Sewell. They're not Toyota dealers but they do have a Lexus dealership on Lemmon avenue. If you live in the dfw area you know their reputation. Plus I get free loaners for life when its in for service. Oh yeah and free car washes. The wife is thrilled!!

I was really disappointed in the Toyota dealers. What a bunch of a55h0l3s! Snakes. These guys are the quintessential used car sales stereotype. Great cars....terrible management. I kid you not, one salesman in Richardson was wearing chrome sunglasses with racing frames. Looked like Brad Pitt in Oceans 12. In Plano the guy tried to "close" me every 2 minutes. Pat Lobb in McKinney was more laid back and certainly friendly but was a little too proud of their prices and selection was thin.

I got 4.9% from Bank of America. Outstanding!!

Toyota certified? Worth it?

YES.... heres the short version. i got an 04 V8, Cert. used, up to 100K miles, well the CDL went out, and YES its covered, there is a $50 deductable, for a $1500 fix, so Id say YES the Cert. used IS worth it.

A couple other thoughts about the V8 vs. V6. If you want 4WD, you will have to be in 4WD all the time in the V8. I like the option to choose, advantage V6. The V6 is a big V6, 4 liter, it does well in this car. You also have to take into account that you have to change the timing belt in the V8 at 90,000 miles. The V6 has a timing chain. But it is all aluminium block and the V8 with the iron block has a great reputation of being solidly built, advantage V8.

The V6 has been around since 2003, we will just have to see how it holds up.

Glad you finally found one. :dancin: Your journey sounds somewhat similar to mine in the DFW area. Don't know why every dealership has to be that dishonest, crooked, shady, etc... :wtf:

One things for sure....I'll never buy an auto anywhere else. Sewell is great. I don't know why I never bought from them before. Every single used vehicle they have on the lot looks like it came right out of the factory.
