Hi. I have always loved the 4runner and now bc of finances and gas costs I'm selling my Chevy and looking to purchase an older 4runner. What years are the best and approximately what are good prices and mileage ranges? Thank you for any replies. This will really help me a lot. I'm looking to spend 6k or under.

Hi there, and welcome! I would suggest taking the time to find a 3rd gen in your price range, if possible. It would have high miles to be in your price range most likely, but you'd just need to make sure it has a good clean history, with its regular maintance done, and things replaced that are necesarry. Also, always look for rust, that is a common problem on older runners. Check out the 3rd gen section, I know they've got some good threads on owning and maintaining a 3rd gen, as do all the generations. Good luck hunting!

Used vehicle prices vary greatly across the US.
Start checking Auto Trader, Craigslist, etc to see what the going prices are in your area.

3rd Gen...

^^^^ Agreed with all above. In your neck of the woods you can get a nice 3rd gen for 6k. I know it is dry down there but just make sure that it is not rusted as stated above. You should have no issue finding a clean 3rd Gen in TX. Just make sure the maint has been kept up. Read up on some of the mileage guys are getting out of the trucks that are taken care of 400-600+ so don't be scared of 200k if the records are with it. Also 99-00 are the best years IMO.
