Cali 4th Gen People: FasTrak Transponder in Sunglasses Holder?

I never use the overhead sunglasses holder. I thought it would be great to just leave my FasTrak transponder up there, but has anyone does this? Does the FasTrak responder register when you go through the toll?

FasTrak says to mount the transponder on your windshield in various places....so maybe all the metal in the roof would work against the transponder.

I hate how ugly the transponder is on the windshield, wish I could make it more stealth!

it just depends. Sometimes itll go off as im bringing it up to the windshield. Just depends which bridge, which lane really. Id imagine it should work.

I keep mine in the center compartment and just grab it and throw it on the dash when I need it. If you forget it is ok because your liscense plate should be registered and they will still bill you. I have called and talked to them in the past and they state that it is required to be visible while on the toll roads and that the CHP can pull you over if they don't see one. I personally have never had this happen but why take the chance, but I have gone through it and left it in my other car and just got billed the toll with a comment stating no transponder. To answer your question I do not know for sure if it would work, but these things don't work off line of site so I figure the fequency of your transponder would still get picked up since it is just going through some sheet metal and a little plastic.

I keep mine in the space under the temp controls and throw it on the dash when I am going through the toll. sometimes I forget and it dings anyways, so I can't say I know how strong the signal is. I too hate them all stuck to the window, I saw one that was dark gray plastic case which I liked more than my faded white one...

Mine seems to stay put just fine sitting on top of the dash in the driver's side corner. Maybe the remaining half of the velcro strips from when I had it mounted to the windshield of my previous car help.
