California 4Runner Drivers Rejoice, Summer Blends are Here!

Been driving a bit lately and noticed that I'm magically getting 40+ miles more per tank, which for me equated to a jump in about 2-3 MPG more in fuel economy. That means the summer blends are here! Oil refiners further refine fuels in the summer to help with pollution out here in the Golden state which means we get better burning gas for our old engines. Newer engines that run on flex-fuel, etc. don't usually change much when they switch to the summer blends, or rather don't drop much when the switch to winter blends.

I'm an avid reader of Car and Driver and they had a great article that went our recently about what the blends are all about and show a map to see if your local area uses summer/winter blends.

Yeah I don't know what the heck they put in the winter blends this past year, but fuel mileage for older vehicles here in CA absolutely sucked this past winter. I went from averaging 17 MPG in the winter down to about 14.5. Part of the reason why I did half the performance mods I did, they have a side-effect of increasing MPG's.

That explains a lot on my 200 mile drive yesterday....Thanks for the reminder. I was all excited that I got REALLY good mpg for driving with the AC off.

I filled up yesterday, definitely see an improvement with this tank, normally I average 18mpgs. I do ~70% hwy and ~30% city.

E85 summer blend is the best. Mad power bruh.
