Help. I guess I suck at searching!

I need to locate CALIFORNIA COMPLIANT catalytic converters for...

4.7 ltr V8 2004 4R

4.0 ltr V6 2004 4R

Both my family trucks have got the dreaded code within two months on each other!!! WTF?

Can anyone list the specific (serial/product/item) numbers and the company that supplies them?

Yes, I have been doing other "remedies" but none are working. I will try the anti-fouler method in a week or so, but Im running out of time to get smog done, so need to be prepared to bend over and take my $$$ to buy new cats.

I found this too, but its weird because while it lists the models and items for the truck, if you choose the SKU search option, it does not show any option beyond 2002

Thanks for that. I actually had this list but was struggling to find retailers - as these are manufacturers, but I think I'm on my way to isolating "who" and "how much". The greatest challenge now is finding the best deal :biggrin1:

About that... as far as I can tell, there are no approved aftermarket options at all for CA. Its dealer only. I looked into this and called the manufacturer of several of them to verify and they claimed that some sellers may "incorrectly" claim that their converters work in CA when they do not and are not approved by the BAR.

which means you will pay to have them installed and then at smog time, they will fail and you will be forced to remove them and go to the dealer to get the factory units anyways. I know that there are lots of janky smog places that will look the other way, but if you find a product that will actually work in CA and not be failed by visual and part number, please post it!

I searched through the ENTIRE B.A.R. exec order lists of every year, the only units that come up for th 05+ vvti v8 motor are the post manifold cats, NOT the integrated manifold cats. But the Catco site does show the actual part in their "pre cat" products page

Need Help with Catalytic Converter replacement 2004 V6

Hi I'm in the same boat.

Basically I need to replace my rear CATs but might decide to replace CAT + Manifold CAT I need to do this by this September. I have researched a bit I was initially hoping on having Bosal or Magnaflow to have something in accordance with NY stipulations (have to be CARB compliant for NY). But unfortunately couldn't find anything. I did another search on RockAuto and only found AP emissions are C.A.R.B. compliant. The parts are priced around ~ half of OEM CATS 17410-31380, 17450-31010 which is favorable. Problem is I read around the forum and other places that even Bosal and Magnaflow sometimes don't last over 2/3 years and in some cases CEL comes back on due to lack of sufficient precious metal in the CATs. I don't want to be in that boat and end up using a simulator for the CEL. I have also heard that after market brands do have early defects which lead leaks after just a couple of years. What is your advice in this situation would you recommend I go with OEM ~1500 from McGeorge toyota and have peace of mind or are there any reliable aftermarkets which are NY/CARB compliant and would last reasonably long (5-6 years) and wouldn't turn on the CEL. Appreciate the advice and expertise and thanks in advance!
