California approves new rules for replacement tires - KCRA

California regulators on Monday approved new rules that will restrict what tires you can buy when it's time to replace them on your car.

In a unanimous vote, the California Energy Commission voted to adopt new rules that will phase out the sale of replacement tires that don't meet certain energy efficiency standards.

There are some exclusions to the new rules, according to the CEC:

Competition tires designed for motorsports
Winter-type snow tires
All-season winter performance tires
Used and retreaded tires
Deep tread tires
Tires designed for ATVs and other off-road vehicles
Large off-road tires for use up to 99 mph
Motorcycle tires
Temporary-use spare tires
Small tires with ≤13-inch nominal rim diameter
Limited production tires (<15,000 per year)
Tires sold for use on an emergency vehicle
High load index tires (122 or greater)
Tires not capable of sustaining speeds over 50 mph
Space saver tires

High taxes, high gas prices, and now regulating tire size. I see why so many people leave.

Leave and move to another state is fine.......as long as they recognize that what they voted for in their former state was wrong.

You really have to admire how committed these people are to insanity.

One of my neighbors moved from the West Coast admittedly to get away from the regulatory environment there but, based on the yard signs that appear every single election cycle, hasn't learned a damn thing.

Thanks for infecting Missouri with your illness.

Yeah, a friend moved from here in MD to Texas to get away from the socialist BS here among other reasons. Then finds out thousands are moving from CA to TX to get away, yet start to vote the same way trying (and somewhat succeeding) to make TX like CA.

Seems like that's a definition of insanity.

Oh, and since this site has a policy limiting political discussions, please don't let this get out of hand.

Thanks
