As you may or may not know, I'm moving up to Bend, Oregon in March to start my new life as an Ex-Californian.

I wanted to find out how many of us are in the area! I already met one member who was awesome (@BackOff) and the trails are awesome up here so I wanted to find more people to hang out with.

I saw a nice White 4th Gen in the Mill District Saturday with a "Accessory Outfitters" sticker on the driver's rear window and an ARB Bumper.

I know there's a good number of Land Cruiser guys in Bend. I hope to visit the area next Summer, I hear it's a great area to live, good for you!

Have thicker than normal skin, and learn to ignore the rednecks shouting that Californians are ruining Bend. As someone who moved here from California after living there for 20 years, and a 5th generation native Central Oregonian, their rantings are comical.

Great place to play offroad, though I only do it on 2 wheels.

Eh, that doesn't bother me much. Most of the people I have talked to have been nice and pretty much said I will fit in fine since one of the main reasons for leaving is because California is so crappy to begin with. After all I'm an immigrant turned US Citizen, so they'll have plenty of ammo to make me laugh with; maybe I shouldn't mention I am a child refugee from an ex-communist country? LoL

I do love the area though.

I am diggin' the breweries up here, not a big beer guy myself (love the ciders and sweeter beers myself), but the selection is awesome. Took a tour of the Deshutes Brewery a while back and that Black Butte was pretty damn good.

Also I know it's Oregonian, but for some reason I was at a loss one day, so the new official term for a resident of Oregon is Oregano!

Fun to put a face to a name.

Pretty sure Bend is mostly peps from other places.
It has really grown in the last 20 years...guess its like that all over.
World population has doubled in the last 50 years.
Still a nice place to live, hard to blame others for liking it too.

I was a little disappointed that the 4-Corners area was just old roads we use to drive on as kids...and it was already getting dusty. Now its signed and you need OHV stickers.
Tons of places to drive where you don't need stickers still...not that $10 for two years is all that bad.

Went south of Pine Mountain and almost got stuck in the snow last weekend.

With regards to Bend's demographics: A friend of mine pointed out to me that Bend actually has a Porsche dealership, so it can't be all hicks and rednecks.

Well, I just rolled into town. It's amazing how everything I own (including my toolboxes) fit inside a 5x8 Uhaul trailer and the 4Runner...

In any case, I'm slowly settling into Bend this week; but I'm now living here! Anyone want some *****in' mac n' cheese and beer at 10Barrel?

I spend quite a bit of time down there as my parents own a home there, and a lot of my family is in the near area. I'll have to give you a shout next time I am around.

Lol... Oregonians, I believe is the preferred term. Bend is a beautiful place with many, many outdoor attractions and a very well funded Search and Rescue organization. We in the PNW have a fairly large following, I for one live in Beaverton which is a few hours away but a pleasant drive if there is no winter sport season traffic. I made the mistake of moving to the wet side of Hood, being a fellow Californian it took the better half of three years to realize if you ever want to get something done you best accept it will be done in the rain. In Bend, you have far less rain but still equally as beautiful as the west side.

What I meant to say, was your better off staying in CA, remove your plates if you don't listen to my advise. The cops will harass you your neighbors will knife your tires and the gas station attendants (yes we here in Oregon like to employ meth heads) will ignore you waiting at the pumps. The paperboy will deliver your paper always promptly on your roof of the house. Your kids will be bullied and your boss, if your lucky enough to find one who will take pity upon your pain will always give you the shitty jobs. You will get plenty of snow in Bend which is very fun for most, but for Cali transplant the plow driver will always shovel the streets in to your driveway. I could go on and on, just be sure to really, and I mean really inspect your food when you go out, the chef or line cook like to go all out in giving you unknown flavor to your food.

They aren't that bad in Bend, I imagine mostly because Bend is the resort town for Mt. Bachelor; so they get plenty of tourists from south and north.

But yeah, want to get my license and plates as soon as possible; got a few purchases I need to make as a citizen of Oregon.

No of course not, Bend is a great place with great people. I spent a summer building pools for a couple resorts and before that Bend was a one horse town, it certainly has grown up since then. As a matter of fact, I moved up in '96 and Oregon at the time was like three years behind, serious I felt like I was in a episode of the twilight zone. But things inevitably change I wouldn't mind living in Bend myself, as things over here are becoming to populated for my liking.

Enjoy your new home, hope to maybe say hi one of these days out on a trail.
