Calling all stockers'...or would that be the non-'builds'?

I think I am going to keep the exterior (besides window tint) stock. I was all ready to swap the wheels, add running boards and subdue/debadge the emblems, but after not finding any wheels online that I liked, and didn't have a real need for N-FAB nerf bars, I realized that I really like the way the Trail looks from the factory. So many 4Runners around my area are the SR5 and Limited models, or lifted with small wheels and big tires, that my stock Trail actually stands out. And I really have grown to like the factory wheels. Wish they were Gunmetal or a little darker though.

I've also found that the stock TE wheels protect the valve stem really well. In Death Valley earlier this month, one of my friend's wheels had the exposed valve stem sheared off by a rock. I never really thought about it up to this point but when you look at the TE wheels, the stems are very well protected.

Enjoyed reading through the whole thread!
After a neighbor totaled my first and new truck, an 86 FJ60 parked in front of my driveway! (that I put in a lot of $ modifying) I replaced it with a 2010- 4 Runner TE; this time older, wiser and less disposable income to play with, I decided to keep it as a stocker since it was already supposed to be the model with all the complete bells and whistles needed to go off road plus.
The only immediate "mods" needed was replacing the "Dumflops" at 30,000 plus with A/Ts; Coopers A/T-3 and replacing the "meep meep" horn which I finally got around to after 100,000 plus miles!
I think the only mod I would consider now is better aftermarket skids and add on sliders since the thin stock skids were bashed up easily off road.
This will be more than adequate since my off roading interest is more backcountry touring/overland expedition on dirt, gravel and snow surfaces;have no intention to rock climbing, playing in mud or sand or serious water crossing!
That is not knocking those who are more adventurous, and have the $/don't care how much $ they spend to put into their rigs/skills to do all the amazing things that we see in this forum!
Thanks for this thread to see that I am not the only one to keep my truck as a stocker and still keep it real!

I've just joined the 5th Gen club - recently trading in my 2003 Limited 4WD V8 after 9 years (bought it used in 2007) and getting into a used 2011 Limited 4WD V6 with Navigation.

These vehicles are so well equipped for my needs that I will not be pursuing some of the modifications that I read/see of our fellow forum members.

The only thing that did concern me while doing my research of the 5th Gen was the limited number of tire choices for the 20 inch rims that come standard on the Limited model. I now see that Michelin offers the Premier LTX in the P245/60R20 size, so I will be getting a set of those to replace the 5 year old Yokohama Geolandars.

After only a few days of ownership, very impressed with the features and options of my stock '11.

I bought the TRD Pro so I would not have to modify it either. Rock sliders will be my only modification. Maybe a roof basket or extra gas tanks.

After the experience I had this weekend I found mods to not be necessary...still a possibility but this thing is more then capable stock.

Reason why me and wife decided to get a TRD PRO we want to leave it stock. Only thing were adding is BAMF Rock Sliders and Full Roof Rack.

Ok, we have plenty of threads about mods and wishlists, but who out there, like me, plans to stay completely stock (other than, maybe, ATs on the next tire change)? I love to go wheeling, so it isn't I'll be cruising malls, but A) I live in North Florida where all we have is sand and mud, 2) driving makes more of a difference in offroad success, and D) I like the idea of putting a stock but capable vehicle through it's paces. Anyone else share this sentiment?

Driving capability can take you far, but having the right tires will do things you couldn't before.

People can run barefoot, but smart people put on the proper footwear.

I love how they fill the wheel wells, they drive wonderfully, and they even make the stock rims look better.

I just did the same mod last Tuesday! I'm liking them so far, still a comfortable ride and I haven't seen any drop in mpg.

If I had the financial means to upgrade to the a 14' - 16' SR5/TE I would probably give in to my poser side and go for a 3" lift and some 285's. They just look so good... that being said as much as I love my 13' SR5, I've grown to hate the low front and rear bumper and rocker panels.

I really can't justify the price of changing the bumpers for purely aesthetic reasons, and while I could probably remove the rockers for less they would look weird by themselves. So other than some 5100's... I'm probably going to continue to not do anything substantial. I just hit 50k miles and my commute has gotten longer so perhaps down the road I can upgrade to a better visual platform for some mod fun.
