Camping at Sequoia Natl Forest in July...other suggestions?

Hi,

My wife and I are thinking about going to Sequoia National Park on 7/25 thru 7/27. However, it looks like alot of the campsites are either first come first serve basis or it is all booked. The only issue is that we will be coming up in the evening so kinda worried to go all the way there from Los Angeles and not find anything in the dark. :help:

My questions are:

1) What are my chances of finding a campsite that is available at night in mid July?

2) Any other suggestions that you guys recommend?

3) Are there any easy trails to do in the 4Runner in Sequoia?

I finally got into another 4Runner so I am dying to take it on some easy trails and do some camping which is long overdue. :hungry:

2 years ago we camped at Dorst Creek. Great spot, did not hit any trails but hiked a bunch.

Camped here many times. Close proximity to many great trails, especially Dish Pan Springs. However it's a 'Black Diamond' trail and pretty rugged. There are plenty of other great trails nearby tho...

Do you know if there are any lakes or streams close by other than the entrance to the campground?

I'm pretty much a beginner so I will avoid the Black Diamond trails. haha Any good/fun trails for beginners you recommend around the area?

Just a short distance past the turnoff for CF is GreenValleyLake. Its a beautiful little lake. The trail into BigPineFlat(3N16)is an easy drive. From BPF there are a boatload of good trails to choose. Checkout Dirtopia :thumb3:

If you have the factory navigation, it will show all the trails up there. Just carry a map with you as well to see the names of the trails.

Lodgepole Campgrounds: Lodgepole Campground - Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks (U.S. National Park Service)

Lodgepole is right by a small store center that has showers and food.

Belknap Campgrounds: Sequoia National Forest - Belknap Campground

Belknap is primitive camping though. So no showers and they have vault toilets. Mosquitos are out in force though so beware lol. I have 18 bites as of right now. I went to Belknap last weekend. Fun times!

Both are right by creeks which is nice. Happy camping!

I stayed at lodgepole and loved it. There's river that runs through camp that's great for relaxing in.
