Completely honest, if you are bringing your wife, I'd suggest getting a campground. She would probably have a better time and better sleep at night. Some people like to do a bit of night wheeling and it could be disruptive at night when you are trying to sleep. General rule of thumb for me was if I am bringing a lady friend I'd get a campground. Most have a level pad to setup camp on and electric hookup aswell as a dumpsite and bathroom. Campsites are also much closer to the water where you can fish etc. if thats your thing. Might I also add, if the government hasnt resolved its issues by then, the campgrounds will still be closed. They are currently closed now until the government reopens, total BS if you ask me.
If you want to do primitive camping though, be my guest, thats what I usually do. I find the best camping spots to be off of the Falls Dam trail near where it meets Dickey Bell (Flatwoods Trailhead on Map), kinda secluded and away from most things, I can show you around the trails on the day of if you'd like. There is also a nice open spot near the Dutch John Double parking lot, but is a high traffic area and you won't get a good nights sleep. I also highly suggest not camping off of a major forest road as the dust is HORRIBLE.
